I just spent about, 2 hours modeling a Porshe, in Milkshape. Once I finished I exported it as a .3ds and loaded it into Cinema 4D CE. This is how it came out.

Why did they come out so funky? Is there a better way to apply an environment map to a car? Right now, all I have is Color and an Environment map. Any help would be appreciated.

.3ds is a file type that likes to mess up stuff in a model try exporting it from .ms3d to another file type .x would be best .
how dose it look in milkshape.

Those last pics dont load for me. If you want to set up a car shader try adding a fresnel effect on the reflection. Also you can make a map of the metal flakes and mix that with the fresnel effect. Also a falloff effect with a sligh hue shift can add a cheap candy color look. A better environment map would help too. I dont know if C4d can do much of this though. Oh and some specularity and gloss adjustments would also help.

How is the environment map actually mapped ?, is it sphere mapped or cube mapped or planner mapped or other and if other what?

This could be effecting it.

Um, I have no clue, but it is Mapped in Cinema 4D CE. The actual Map itself is a Sphere with a Black background.

How would I fix the normals in Milkshape or Cinema 4D CE?

not a clue. Doesnt really look like a normals issue but you never know. I really dont know much about c4d.

It looks to me like you make a seperate UV map for each or the panels on the car, e.g. the bonnet, bumper , doors etc.

So although your texture covers the whole car, your environment map is being but on each section as a whole not over the whole car in one.

I dont think it's a normals problem either.
