In general, what would be the performance hit by switching? I really want to get WinForms in my project, this seems like the easiest way

Depends really upon how well you code. There certainly will be a hit due to the code having to be interpreted by C++ code then into assembly.
If your application is fairly complex and system intensive, sticking with C++ may be the best option, but C# or VB is perfectly adequate for something less demanding.
