for my 3D scenery, i want to add a real time day/night cycle, using the computer's system clock to set the time for it, i can do that, but how should i make it so it changes seamlessly and gradually from day-> dusk -> night-> dawn -> day?

One method would be to use a large sphere for your sky. On one side is day and one side is night (with transitions). Then you rotate the sky slowly. For best results you may want to use 2 different spheres. 1 inner sphere and one outer sphere. The inner is alpha mapped and has cloud on it while the outer is sky colors and the sun/moon. oh and you can dim/change the ambient light based on the time of day.

Froggermon, LOL, thats actually a pretty good idea!!! I never thought about adding doing something like that!(of course I never thought of alpha mapping a cloud sphere, that can actually have some pretty realistic, yet low-costly effects, wow)
