Is it possible to have objects represented by positional sprites? This would be similar to games like Doom where characters are 2D sprites in a 3D environment that change images based on how they are viewed.

I would say that 'decals' are the nearest thing to that.

Not that I'm aware. Decals are indeed the nearest type of media to what your looking for, but are very limited in respect to viewpoint observation in that they can be tagged to always face the observer, or face a single direction. They can display a 16 frame looping animation, but have no variable framerate options to slow down or speed up the animation. They also do not support variable textures that will display based on the players visual relation to the object.

I'm not saying that it is impossible. With some creative scripting this may indeed be possible, but it is not a readily available feature of the decals in FPSC.

What objects do you mean? If far away buildings or objects: yes. Anything the player can reach: Less ideal.

You could achieved this by making a plan model with a 2d sprite image thats what a decal is anyway.

Only an idea
