I took the 3d cube demo, added myself a window, a texture and a bumpmap. All worked well until the bumpmap. I've removed the window stuff to bring it down to the least possible code. It crashes as soon as I run it. DBP Compiler as encountered an error and needs to close.

While we're at it, if I use the cube demo, and replace the first line with this :

Load Object "fighter.3ds",1

I get the same ( DBPCompiler has encountered an error and needs to close. ) I know it's a valid model as I modelled it myself, and I've already had it going in Blirz3d and 3dRad.

3ds files are a bit of an issue at the moment. Some people can load them but most people can't (including me). Just crashes out for me.

I also believe there are problems with bumpmapping not working in current patch.

Do a search in bug forum for details.

Oh ok. I guess that must go for Rainbow Shading too, as that has the same result. I'll browse the bug forum to see if there's anything else I need to be aware of.

I also can't use 3DS file format, but when I converted stuff to .X everything worked fine. I don't know about any freeware converters though. Had to use Cinema 4D to convert all my stuff. Though I haven't had any problems with Bump Mapping. Or is it just me

My main modeller is 3dsMax, which might do the conversion, but I don't have the .x exporter installed yet. I'm pretty sure Ultimate Unwrap will do the job though. I'll give it a try.
