Hey all,

Not sure if there's already a thread about the latest Superman movie 'Man Of Steel', but I've seen it last weekend, and this is what I think about it:

Probably one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
This Superman movie has more story, more action, more great actors, more emotion than any other Superman movies, imo. Really great movie.
There was no second in the movie that was dissapointing.
Hopefully, they'll make a sequel with the same actors...soooooon!

Did any of you guys/girls see it yet? What's your thoughts about the movie?

Cheers

I saw it recently. Honestly thought it was actually one of the worst films I've seen in a long time...perhaps even my life. The story was lacklustre and the action was just boring as heck. When you have two basically invincible people fighting each other there just isn't any tension or excitement. There were no stakes throughout the entire film apart from the world being destroyed, and even that wasn't very interesting.
Anyway...just my opinion!

Have to agree with BMG, there wasn't even any Kryptonite!

There were countless plot holes, and why was it so America centric?

I saw it, and loved it.

Why does that matter? The rest of the originals were as well...so what?

Hmm...in most other Superman movies, there's just no story at all. In Man Of Steel, you (at least) see the beginning on planet Krypton, how it all began, parts of his childhood, his 'human' side.
Also, they aren't invincible, because they CAN kill each other, they also have the same power as Superman, which gives it more realism.
If Superman had no 'equal', someone that has the capabilities to destroy him, wouldn't that be boring?

I suppose the story was ok, but I still thought the first 30 minutes on Krypton was a bit long, but then again I don't know much about Superman.

It's not that he shouldn't have an equal, it's just that I thought the fight scenes were very poorly choreographed. About a week before seeing MOS I watched 'Ip man' which has some of the best fight scenes I've seen, whereas MOS was repetitive, slow and throughout it neither side seemed to be gaining any advantage until the obvious end in which Superman wins. It was just a lot of things getting blown up again and again, then Superman wins somehow.
Again, just my opinion. I like films like 'Ip man' and some of the Batman ones because it's interesting to see how the protagonists use unconventional and creative methods to overcome a problem.

I agree there; Ip Man was pretty epic.

He even learned how to wear his underpants underneath his pants! How boring is that?

I haven't seen it yet, but my Superman fanboy friend hated it, which I actually found kinda surprising.

He described the new incarnation of the Krypton...(ite...onian?) as being "emoey and moody all the time."

Again, haven't seen it myself, but don't really have any urge to watch a Superman movie. Not a fan of his character in general at all.

You got more background story in this movie, but the present-day story kinda lacked. Sequences advanced too quickly without sufficiently building up the stories inbetween. I like the action scenes, I thought they were pretty well done. But overall I give it a 3/5

Just got back from seeing this.

Really well made. All the alien stuff does not do it for me though, too many giant insects and spaceships. I really liked the human side of the story.

I saw this over the weekend and really enjoyed it.

I liked the bit on Krypton, it was suitably alien and I think the mood was right for a planet that was on the brink of blowing up. I thought the fight scene at the end was very good and reminded me of the end of Chronicle but with a bigger budget. The bit in the middle, I didn't like so much.

General Zod was fantastic. Very well acted.

I think there should have been more of a build up to him becoming Superman. This is sort of what I was hoping for, expecting General Zod to be kind of tacked on unnecessarily. Because of this, I didn't really think of it as a Superman story but more of an alien invasion story.

As for being American centric, doesn't Superman fight for "truth, justice and the American way"?

one of these days I'll come up with a better signature

I watched it. Meh. Don't even really remember much about it - that's par the course with superhero movies, instantly forgettable, disposable, and very predictable.

Watched WarZ as well, that's a zombie film where Brad Pitt has to save the world, despite having America's military waiting in the wings to provide support - the guy travels all over the world so his family can stay on a ship instead of being fed to zombies.

Are there no decent movies these days!

When the hell is Bladerunner2!

I got a fever, and the only prescription, is more memes.
