Hello,
I had previously posted this in the wrong forum (3D Modeling) but was directed to post here for more info. Got some valuable feedback already but wanted to try this forum too.

I am new to FPS Creator and am teaching some kids how to use it. I would like to show them how to import a 3D model of themselves into the game from multiple photos of themselves.

1. I understand that FPS takes .X files with DDS or TGA texture files. So I used Autodesk 123D Catch to create an OBJ file from the photos and used Blender to convert to a .X format. But wasn't sure how to save a texture file.
2. I copied the .X file to the entities\"myname" folder in FPS install directory. But I see that it needs an fpe file as well. I understand FPE is a text file I edit to point to the texture and x file location. But not sure how to save the texture file from Blender.

Could someone point out tools that will ease the process of going from photos to a 3d FPS compatible 3D model, so the kids can import themselves in to the game. Is 123D catch->Blender the right way to go or is there a better option. I prefer freeware but willing to pay some $ for modeling tools.
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
Cheers,
Heather

It sounds like you want the kids to make an animated character of them selves. That is a very long and complicated process to do by scratch.

I have some video tutorials on my web site for a $50 dollar modeling program called fragmotion. It is one of the best programs to use with FPSC.(IMHO)

go to http://www.chaosbrosfilms.com go to joe's page and you will find them there.

Another method would be to retexture an existing model using the childs photo... i believe there is a tutorial somewhere on these boards.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately the tutorial link in http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=186901&b=21
are dead.
The retexturing approach seems to be the best way.I would love to know how to go about it. What software can I use ?
Thanks,
Heather
