Yes, NMA- No More Aliens , is vanished.
Yesterday night, i've a stragnge hd crash, a DOUBLE hd crash.
My second hd i used for backups data.
Can't believe. Motherboard and cpu to trow away.Only videocard and sound card survived.
"Doctor" say it was an electric disfunction of the power supply, the only thing i can say is 3 months of work on my entry vanished, and about 10 gb of media (Textures, midi, wav) deleted.
The only thing i have is a compiled demo of 1 month ago, and some old shots. No source code.I don't want to show anything and i don't want to know how this compo end.
I'm so sad, i'm leaving tgc for a long time.
Good luck friends.

Ermes.

Dang, thats gotta be the worst luck I've ever seen. Better back up my code and stuff soon. Well Ermes, if you're looking to rebuild your media base, do you have DBC or DBLite? Install that, it comes with a whole lotta media.

Just downloaded game and it is very impressive!

Just curious as to collision method used - obvious from files that game is a matrix for the ground and loads of textured boxes for the buildings and walkways, but could you be so kind as to give a hint at how you do did collision. Are you using built in collision or maths collision?

math collisions, controlling xyz position of player and an array containing world coordinates of buildings.
What you see is only for your eyes, the program controls collisions from an array systems.

Very impressive, isnt'it?????
all is math and math and math systems, 3d used only for visualization.

I've learned a lot from this project, we'll see in the next game what i can put togheter....

This time, NMA was one of the best of the compo. But all turned on bad luck. And my stupidity.

Almost everyone learns the hard way, sadly... I did but it wasn't a loss as large-scale as yours I suppose. At least you've got some stuff to show for the game... People know you really did make it...

I reckon just entering the game as it is will beat most people's hands down. Why not enter it as it is?

Also I find it highly unlikely you have lost contents of two hard drives. I would get a second opinion on them to see if contents can be salvaged. At least hook 'em up to another pc as slave drives to see what happens.

using the hard drive as a slave on another machine isn't a bad idea, just cross your fingers that it wasn't actually a hard drive error that knocked everything out

actually, 90% of the time that data could be recovered (well as long as your hard drives didn't set on fire, or your needle didn't start poking randomly around your hard drive),

but the problem is, the companies who can recover hard drives charge something like £0.20 per megabyte recovered. doesn't sound alot, but if you had a 20 gig hard drive, that would cost ya £4096, lol

oh, and that price doesn't generally include the cost of the CD's or DVD's they write the data onto for you.

thats the problem.i've 20 gb hard disk, dut the source code was on the main hd of my pc, it isn't important the second hd blow up, 'cause it has only the media library on it's contents.
For saving the main hd with all data, i'll have to pay about 5000 euro.
Entry the game as it is now, i can't win, the game was at a double of the standard of the "actual" demo.
Explosions for the aliens, every level has a different automatic turret, more object on the scenery, fog systems, double sky pharallax systems etc etc. (i'm feeling bad remembering it..)

what i can say... better luck for the next compo.

Well I don't know you Ermes, don't think we've ever spoke, but I gotta say that's sheer awful luck my friend.

From what I saw, looked a damn fine example of coding.

Here's hoping the next competition comes quicker for you...

Ermes,
What actually happend to your HD?

If it's the boot sector, then that can often be fixed by resetting it with the SYS command in Dos.

This is like Pincho's Star Trek script all over again, damn dodgy hard disks are the bane of the DB community!.

My hd don't run, i.e. start to read then make a "flik" and reset, start read then "flik" then reset.....

I discover my Media Library on secondary HD are safe, just a problem if is connected to the pc if the main damaged hd is connected.

I have all the object, the new and the old one but i lost the code, all the version from start september to last 5 days ago.

To repair, i need someone who take out the disk of my hd and fix it in some machine who read data.
There are some around me, but it cost not less than 5000 euro for a 20 gb hd....

You sure? My bro salvaged the data from his cooked old laptop for something along the lines of $120, got it burned onto CDs and FedExed right back. The deals can't be that much worse over there!

Just thinking out load really...

Good luck though...
