Hey, I figure a lot of the guys in here are still school age, so check this out.

http://www.studica.com/products/index.cfm

Luckily my wife is in college so she can order from here!

I recently purchased Carrara Studio 3 from here, really like the program! Only problem is it won't export to .x or .md2, but I have the SDK and may have this fixed soon. I totally recommend this software!

Aside from that, where else can you get a full version of 3D Studio Max for around $600.00? Just thought some of you guys might be interested, especially with all the recent talk of software piracy on the forums! Check it out!

These are student licenses. NOT commercial. Using models made with these in games that are sold would be illegal.

yeah, for some of the programs, some of them don't differentiate between student liscence and full liscense. Max does... but some of the others don't. You've got to read the description of each.

Whether they say it in the description or not, they're all student, teacher or faculty licenses. That's why the site is called Studica. RPGamer is correct, using them for commercial purposes would be illegal.

how many people on this forum will ever sell anything? Not many at all. And if they do get a publisher they can make them pay for a commmercial license of max.

Thank you Froggermon. Not to burst any bubbles, but I bet 90% of the people using any of these programs won't ever publish anything. Of those that do, 99% probably won't make any money off of what they publish. More than likely what'll happen is they'll learn the program they want, like Max or Maya, or whatever, make a game or something, and make it available as a "see what I can do" type of thing. This is perfectly legal under a student liscence! Someone will argue that you cannot openly distribute with a student liscence, however making it available to others in your learning group... like the DB forums... is perfectly legal. BTW, does this whole student thing apply to DB? If a school gets the DBPro free like they advertise on the webpage, and a student makes a game and publishes it the web, is that legal???? Just want to know, since we have a ton of forum lawyers in here!

Most of the vendors also have an upgrade option to buy a liscence for publishing. Research each product before buying! See what is offered and see what you can do with the version you are buying. I'm sure if hundreds of us got on there and downloaded a program that stated we could use the student version unrestricted, they might change the liscencing! But what are the odds? And again, if 100 of us downloaded a program, about... say... none of us would probably make any money with it! So who would give a big 'ol stinky poop anyway!
