Hey everybody,

I've tried everying, using relative paths, getting the current directories, etc.

Everything works great when the project is not packed with smart packer, but whenever I use Smart Packer, the "get dir$()" commands and such leads to a folder in %appdata%. Like I said, using commands to get the folder from where the application is started/installed does not seem to work.

Files packed with Smart Packer are found, but I also need to access files from the 'install directory' from the game.

Help is much appreciated!!

Edit:
Figured Smart Packer is not really a plugin/library... so it's no problem if a mod wishes to move it to the appropriate board!

Can a mod please close/remove this thread?

I'm reposting this in another section because this is not the right place and most of the few 'views' this thread has, are my own and I do need help with this.

Thanks!

Hey MrValentine,

No, it required a new feature in SPP. I've been in contact with the developer and he kindly implemented the required feature. I've tested it and it works great!

Not sure if the update is already publicly released, but if it is not, you can be sure the feature will be in the next update of Smart Packer Pro!

Next week we will release the latest version of Smart Packer Pro (full/trail versions) which includes this feature.

Currently we are working on the 64bit release (supports 32/64bits natively) and expect it to release within two months. It was delayed for several reasons but now it looks it is finally happening
Note: existing customers of Smart Packer Pro will get an interesting upgrade discount. More information will follow later.

Smart Packer - Accessing External Files

Hi Sph!nx and mrniceguy:

I have asked about accessing external files before but this sounds hopeful...

So how would you now go about accessing a 'real' external file? i.e. not in the virtual storage, but on the hard drive? (assuming I've understood this properly and I'm guessing I probably haven't!)

I've downloaded the latest trial (1.9.5.1) but I can't see anything new that would let you do that.

Thanks again.

Hi ActionSaxon,

This feature of accessing external files is still under review/development.

Well, I do not wish to speak for mrniceguy, but it's gonna be quite simple to do! I wrote a small function that I can easily reuse.

I'll be a bit busy the next couple of weeks, but I will post the function when mrniceguy has released the update (if I do not forget).
