I've been successful at modeling some stuff in Wings3D. I would eventually like to animate some of them.

First off, is truespace 3.0 (yes, the free one) any good at animating models.

Second, how would one go about this when they are modeling the stuff in Wings.

Third, what converters would I need to make this all happen (.wings, to .cob, to .x or .3ds) provided it is worth it to do all of this?

Question #4: is Truespace 3.0 more user friendly at texturing models than wings is?

Answers to these questions will seriously effect how my projects in the future are decided upon. Any advice and comments will help and will be appreciated. Much thanks...

Well, I just figured out that wings3d and Truespace BOTH support .3ds files .

I'm kinda new to the Truespace environment, how well does it animate models? How does it compare to, say, Milkshape? Can it get the job done?

What about texturing?

Any questions and comments welcomed.

I was newer trying Truespace 3.0 so I cant realy say something about its animation and texturing abilities.

I do modeling in Wings3D and for texturing (better say unwraping) I use LithUnwrap and thats what I recomend to you too. (LU is free)

When you texture your model, doesnt matter which prog. you useing, remember that if you want to use it later in DB, texture have to be in one file.
Lot of programs alove you to build your model skin from several diferent textures, but that doesnt work in DB. They usualy have library of textures ...each is separate file so beware!
That was true for Truespace 1.0 and I think is true for 3.0 as well.

For animating, I have no clue hove its working in Truespace 3.0, sorry...

Hmm, that clears up some questions I had about texturing. I'll take a look a Lithuwrap. Thanks.

Anyone else? Anything you can contribute would be excellent, especially concerning animation.

That clears up just about everything - not.

I think I'll just quit whining - I'm nothing but a cheapskate. Unfortunately I can't afford CharacterFX, etc. Hell I can't even afford Milkshape3D. I'll be doing alot of google searches for Truespace animating tutorials - thanks for at least paying these posts heed.

I find that using the wings unwrapper is useful for separating my polys into groups, then using lithunwrap I scale and move and tweek until it's right. I find splitting my uv map into useful sections very hard using lithunwrap (although thats just me). The only annoying thing about the wings unwrapper is that you cannot load the uv map back up to edit it again. However if I'm wrong tell me, and I'll be very happy .

Do you bite your thumb at me sir?
