i was wondering what is the average age for darkbasic users. IF someone does know can you tell me your age. So far Im in College right now and just curious if i'm too old or not. Im 20 though just let everybody know. And so far i've been known about computers back only at my sophmore year of high school. I think im learining too slow. I know pretty much a lot of computers all i need to know is just programming and Internet HTML.

So your 20 eh?

Yep ... you're too old ... far too old to be using darkbasic. Which means I've been too old for the last 13 years!

There is no age limit on doing something you enjoy (as long as it's legal) If you still wnat to play with lego and action man at 20 who's to say that's wrong? If you'd rather wear a flat cap, smoke a pipe and go crown green bowling with OAP's at 20 ... that's not wrong either, a little wierd maybe but not wrong.

I'm 33 my girlfriend is 19 and she likes to play 2D platform games which are hard to come by these days, so I write them for her using darkbasic. I haven't once considered that I may be too old to be writing games.

So, if you still think you are too old to be writing games then I suggest one of two things. You could see a shrink to sort your head out or do what I have done and find yourself a younger girlfriend that likes to play retro games and write them for her. ROFL

Nah, that average age is about 13 to about 16 or 17 (but realistically, people as young as 11 use it, and people as old as 33, ie Scraggle, use it )

It's not about the age, it's about the maturity... and the joy...

If you like it, stick with it, have some fun, possibly make some money out of it in the process...

If you don't, go and get drunk and think of some brilliant plan to p*ss off your professor... lol...

It's all a matter of preference really.

Btw, I'm only 16. Yet, i love to program, and to just use computers in general, so im sticking with it for the long run...

Its quite surprising that the majority of us are in the teens - 12 to about 16, like the fabled 'bedroom coders' of old. Saying that, how did you discover DarkBASIC? i did when a mate showed me a feature in a magazine after we had been thinking of making games for a few months. He said he had a demo so I went to his house. Few months later DB arrived at my door...

I looked around for c++ stuff (before I knew it was complex ) and I read some stuff on it at programmersheaven.com. Then I read about basic there. I saw some forms opf basic there, checked them out. dark basic had a simple description "A programming language based on BASIC used for creating new, up-to-date Windows games"

This intruiged me and I took a look. I d/l'd the demo and fell in love with it! I bought full Classic as soon as my demo was gonna expire.

Also, I re-did the desription to make db sound even better http://www.codepedia.com/1/DarkBasic

[edit] I also just made a message board there too [href]http://www.programmersheaven.com/groups/darkbasic [/href] anyone want to join? [/edit]

Methinks this thread will locked or deleted very soon. Moderators here do not like the idea of revealing users ages, for obvious reasons.

Just for the record, I'm 35 (starts to sob quitely)

well, I am older than scraggle but younger than easily confused, I'm 34. I think the avg age of dbp users is probably higher than 16-17, probably more like 22-23. Probably because the teenie-boppers are more apt to chime in on these boards makes the avg seem lower.

Well, I'm 34. Now, reading this, I start to look for the hanging rope. Whatever happened to my teens? When I could sit up with my Amiga till 6 a.m. in the morning and then head to school for a full day, and be able to do it?

And now, with this post, I've cleared the 200-post hurdle. Hooray. Just 1800 to go to the next mark.

What's wrong with yer 30s? Excellent age. You can drink, drive, and vote (though hopefuly not all at the same time) straight through your 30s! Whereas I have to wait until I'm 21 for the first, 16 for the second and 18 for the third .

errm UK drinking law.

You can drink at any age!!!

You cannot drink outside in certain areas.

You cannot buy any drink until 18.

You can get someone else to buy you a drink if they are of capable mind (Not drunk or on drugs)

You can go in a pub at age 17 without a guardian (Up to landlord if you get kicked out)

You can get served soft drinks at a pub.

You can drink alcahol in a resturant, also as long as you are paying most places will serve wine to your table.

I'm 15!! and i'm not so newbie....I program on Visual Basic, DIV Games Studio 2, DB, Blitz Basic 3D, PureBasic, even Quick BASIC!!!!. You don't have to be so old for programming in a lot of languages, or for knowing a lot, I even learned my english playing Final Fantasy 1 in Nintendo!, About being young....my mother is 35 and her brain is 15 years old , she even plays Diablo II and enjoys it!!!, she plays all the Final Fantasy series and she enjoys it, and she feels young!. Try to do what young people do (like me), like hearing Rock, Rap, get yourself a nice windows wallpaper, play arcade games...well!

I'm 20-flippin'-9...
I discovered DarkBasic 'Classic' after I got fedup trying to use Direct3D. Didn't actually use it ('cos I was doing a 2D sprite system in C at the time), and when I heard that there would be a DBPro, I decided to pre-order that (and hoped it wouldn't be buggy)...

good although im 20 i still feel like an teen. I'm still energetic and full of youth. although im a single 20 year old guy in California. lol.... anyway i have been chekcing out DarkBASIC for a while now and like that most was because i only want to make games that me and my friends can enjoy it and not for the profit. Someday when i make a great game i wouldn't even care if someone is using my idea. As long as they wanna have a good time with their buddies. Do you guys know what i mean? That's me a guy with a lot of sense of humor and liks to relax and have some fun.

29 here, yo.

I don't remember the 70's, but I totally grew up in the 80's, which was a HUGE decade for the growth of Video Games! Super Mario, Frogger, Moon Patrol, etc. The classics are simply timeless, and I am very glad that I got to experience them first hand!

Boy, back when I was a kid ... games took a long time to load ... and they had 3-8 colors on the screen at a time. All games in the arcade cost a quarter, and you could make a call from a pay phone for 10 cents. And a candy bar only cost thirty-five cents! And nobody knew that George Micael was gay yet . . . oh, what a world!

21, and Meng in Cali it's easy to feel like a teen
Hell the nightlife barely starts here til your 21, or atleast legally it shouldn't ^_^

it was kinda like being 15 again commin' here though, ya know got a few mates had to make our own entertainment. So you'd find a shopping cart and see how far down a nice steep boulavard you can get it before the cops pick you up ^_^
(or wake up with traffic lights in your bed one side and a girl the other wondering how either got there... hehee no doubt why most guys miss thier teens i think)
