I'm writing a work about a programm I'm doing in DarkBASIC, but I have a lil problem ... when I write DarkBASIC, shall I add the Trademark, copyright symbol or something else in my text ?

no, I meant when I write DarkBASIC in my work (it's on paper), what symbol shall I write after the word DarkBASIC ?

oh. I thought you meant you'd write something about your own project. Now that I think of it, I havn't seen "DarkBasic (R)" or anything like that anywhere...

You don't need to put anything. Maybe legally yes, but TGC will hardly sue you

The (C) is automatically assigned to you. You can add the (C) as a notification as to who the copyright as assigned to. The copyright will last with you your entire life, and then a further 50 years after your death to your next of kin.

If you wrote a game called "The Legend of Dark Basic", you could copyright the game, but you couldn't copyright the words. However, you could create a 'style' (for example the font, size, colours, etc), and claim this is a trade mark. However, other people could also 'rip' this from you and claim it to be there own (the words, not the game which is still copyrighted).

However, if you DID register your Trademark, you could then have the (R), which means nobody would legally be able to use those words, in your style anywhere unless they had your permission to do so.

I'll add that not all text can be trademarked. 'Legend' or 'Axe' or 'Universal' couldn't be trademarked. 'Legendary Studios' or 'Axes Plus' or 'Universal Pictures' (duh ) probaly could.

The word Matrix isn't copyrighted - it is just a name for a table of numbers used in certain 3D calculations.

The Matrix logo etc. are.

Microsoft was having legal problems because they tried to register the english word (which, as stated above, can't be done) windows. Does anyone know what happend with that?

Too true. BUT, use the Matrix with some kinda of 'digital' green background, and you MAY run into problems, especially if Warner decided to because they may claim it was steering the public into a false belief the product is warranted by them.

But one way to get round this, is in small print, simply say "This product is in no way endorsed by Warner Bros." or similar, and you're fine
