Geek Culture / RAM or Video Card?

Based on the fact that I have 256 MB of RAM and a ATI Radeon 9000 Pro, and only 150 bucks to spend, which would best be upgraded? Should I buy the 512 MB of Ram I've been looking at, or save up for a new Video card?

I'd go with ram before video card. It's either that or keep saving and get a kick-@$$ graphics card, odds are you won't find a great one for only 150.

another 256mb or even a single 512mb shouldn't cost more than $60
and you can get a GeForceFX 5700 Ultra 128mb for around $140

either are good choices

Quick question. I've heard about some problems with some GeForce drivers and the need to switch between them sometimes. Have I just been hearing wrong, or is this a real issue?

Real issue unfortunly
In C&C:Generals you need an older version of the driver
to make it work fine if not half of the game will be black.

Do you have SDRAM or DDR or RDRAM?

Are you serious? Where on earth...?

I usually get my RAM from crucial, and their 512s usually cost between $90-100 at least!

And the FX card, well that I really must know, where?

Circuit City. Raven's serious. I've seen 512MB's for as little as $50 there. And the FX Card should be there or at Best Buy for around the same price.

HZence you know its actually alot cheaper to buy Mobo kits from AMD or nVidia than it is to buy them brand new in the shops

just an interesting tidbit (especially as nvidia now own Crucial Ram and are partnered with AMD... nForce2 400 / 512mb 400mhz / AthlonXP 2400+ w/Builtin GeForceFX 5600Go! i believe was $150 from thier site)

some good deals around christmas anyways

Find the lowest of everything on pricewatch.com

I found a SB Audigy 2 platinum, retail box, for only $150 with free shipping! I'll be buying that within a few weeks. Along with a new video card, cpu, and ram. I found micron 1GB DDR 2100 ECC registerd, for only $215. About a $100 less than what my usual computer provider gets me. I suggest checking out pricewatch.

Yes, I have to take ECC. Stupid dual amd cpu server mobo!
