Basiclly i have a machine with an installation of Win2k and i am attempting to put Redhat 9 on. Of course it isn't working, the autoboot for RH9 won't load when i restart my machine.

Before you ask, i do have my CDROM at the top of my boot list.

My machine i want RH9 on is a P3 933mhz, 256mb ram, 2 CDROM, matrox millenium G450, Phoenix Bios, and 30 gig hard drive.

Any help on getting RH9 installer to load would be appreciated.

repartitioned an NTFS section for RedHat to sit on?
i mean once it detects that it'll happily sit there and basically install with only a few clicks from CDROM Boot

One thing I would say is don't install RedHat 9, go straight to Fedora. RedHat's desktop linux has been discontinued officially and has now shifted to being Fedora, within a few months the up2date servers used by RedHat 9's up2date program will go offline. Fedora's up2date program supports multiple non-official servers so allowing you to still make use of the service.

As to your problem, you could try creating a boot disk (There's probably something to do this on the redhat 9 cds) to start the install from.

yeah i found it.... now to make a "boot disk" and to see if I can get RH9 on this POS.

as for Fedora, i was thinking about it, but i'll stick with RH9 for now..

i used a floppy to boot into redhat and left the floppy out when i required the windows partitions.

I would reccomend you try a linux called gentoo.

Yay! Indi converted!

Dances around mooing like Larry The Cow

Gentoo is a great distro, it's also perfectly good for Linux newbies, what it isn't good for is impatient people who are unwilling to spend a little time reading the exceedingly good install documentation. Installing Gentoo will not only leave you with a great feeling of achievement but will also teach you some valuable things about Linux.

Not a linux mewbie here.... just never had to use a boot disk to install RH before.. It was alot easier to install (TY Bill gates for making everything hell for me, cause of your damned Win2k taking priority).

Yeah i have used RH7-9, not sure what version of Mandrake, and WinLinux. Gonna DL and Try Fedora sometime this week.

Ty for the help
