I'm pretty sure my constant wings3d promotion campaign may be annoying other DB forum dwellers, but I haven't found a cleaner, more uncluttered interface than that of Wings3D.

It has an odd, almost restrictive approach to modelling, but it makes you a better modeller in the end

pff, almost forgot - it's free!

Can I ask you a Question?
What is it?
It's an interrogative form of sentence, used to test knowledge. But that's not important right now.

nope! you have to find a technique somewhere in your skull.
then you don't have to worry about wich modeler you use.
when you get it all you have to worry about is wich UI you like.

(the $X,XXX modelers make things faster and crash less but are very deep and might take months to get used to.)

Nintendo will rule again.
soon very soon.

just takes getting to know the ui's a lil bit,
once you understand the basics it's a peice of proverbial pie.
though i have an idea, perhaps you can contact my email address; help me with a little experiment ^_^

The easiest one that I know is DoGA CGA. It is designed as a series of lessons (L1, L2, L3.) It is not a 3D modeller per se, but more like a 3D studio full of parts that you assemble to make your models. It has .X export so you can use the models with Dark Basic.

http://www.doga.co.jp/english

Each lession is free to download and use. You can register L2 and/or L3 if you want to make AVI movies.

L1 and L2 have English help files and I made a translation of the L3 Parts Assembler help file when you get to that point.

Due to its parts bin metaphor, DoGA CGA excels at mechanical things. Jets, space ships, power armor, giant robots, etc. It is a good stepping stone to other programs. Once you master DoGA, moving on to 'real' 3D modellers is a lot easier.

Eovia's Carrara Studio 3 is really easy to use. However you'll be stuck exporting to .3ds for DB. Awesome goodness!
