Hi... is there a way to have pre-rendered backgrounds a'la Final
Fantasy 7, 8 and 9 with 3d characters moving around on them? Could
anyone tell me how it works? Just wondering... thanks!

It's no more offensive than "Jesus is Lord", not that I think we need to get into a jihad about sig lines.

To keep this on topic, one method is to render the scene in 3D with a fixed camera location. In the game, you display the background and have a hidden array that indicates the locations where the players can move to. When the players move about in front of the background, the illusion is that they are part of a very detailed area.
