Hello again... I have some questions concerning
both DarkBASIC and 3d, and I didn't want to make
more threads than nescessary, so I post it here.

1) I know how to make characters for DB, but how
is it with objects like houses etc? Do you
make them in a 3d program with a texture-map
or is there this other way; the secret way?

2) As you see in the picture below, me and my
friends project will be placed in a chilly
place . now I wonder... is it possible to
make the characters move through the snow
rather then ON it?

3) And for last... when making a map, I first
planned to make tiles for the whole thing, but
then I read that your can make one big texture
and then apply it on the matrix. How could I
do that?

I would be quite grateful if you could help me with
these... um... problems ... oh yeah! From now on
I'll be posting more questions (that is if I have
some) in this thread.

I was bored so here's some more pics that show you how I
thought it will look like (these are just renderings) .

The middle one has a bump map attached to the snow, so
that's why it looks more like snow than the other two
screenies. Um... the cottage has about 150 polys.
The character has about 1500, but I'm not going to use
him (since his frankly quite ugly and the polycount is
way too high), so look at him as... ugh... decoration.

well, the simple way to make your character walk "in" the snow is to just place his/her height a small amount below the ground level, in effect clipping off the feet under the snow. this is really easy, but doesn't do anything about creating tracks/ruts in the snow... like in Virtua Figher 4.... that would be much more difficult...

One thing to be cool would to have a bunch of particles go up everytime he steps so it looks like he's trudging through the snow--I don't know much about the theory behind particles, but that would definitely make it look more like he's walking through snow.
An idea for foot prints would be to have little plains textured with grey foot prints and a black background so you can only see the foot print and just place those behind the guy as he walks.

hope this was helpful,
juvy

Thanks! That covered questions numba' 2 pretty well .
Here's a rendering from a tree that I plan to have in the
game for you who are bored...

Hmm... do anyone know how to do that thing I wondered in
question 3? PS. I'll try to do things with that particle-
thing you mentioned, Juvenile.
