Hi all,

As a special thank you to our loyal supporters, we've converted Monty Miner for Android, to a very retro inspired and themed platformer in the true classic style. Monty Miner is available as donationware, so you can pay whatever you want, or download for free if you'd like.

Download from itch.io here.

Enjoy

Nice! It makes me feel like it's still the early 90s. In a good way, of course.

Congrats

Why do the player animation freeze up sometimes in a walk frame or its intended by design?

I didn't know they did. They freeze when the player jumps, is that what you mean?

I belive you have code that simply only plays when it walks ?
So sometimes does it look like the animation freezes up befor it starts playing?
If you have a specific frame for standing still and jumping should solve it?
if you stand still so does it stop at a full walk animation that made me wonder…
Its no big deal as its how we want our games to animate and that differs…
I many times overdo stuff
But my latest pixelstein and narpg so did i actually work on making things alot simplier…
Very limited animations in them..

Yeah Cliff got it. What he is referring to I think is there is no idle animation / pose for the player so whatever frame was displayed when he stops moving is still displayed. You may be going for authenticity of the retro games over all else and some may have kept the image the same as you are.

I need to play this still. Taking a break from game dev tonight so will be a good time to check it out!

I downloaded this last night and gave it a play. Very nice title screen presentation had a nice retro vibe. I encountered an issue with falling through platforms on the far edges near side walls but overall it has a very authentic retro 80s game feel with significantly higher fidelity graphics of course.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm aware of that issue. I have a fix, but I've not had time to apply it. Thanks for the reminder.

Yep, always uploading about 3 updates one after another as I realise I've forgotten a fix, or more often that not, because I've not turned of dev tools.
