Finally, I earned 200$USD and decided to upg my comp.

Since I already have Dual AMD Athlon's 2x1Ghz and 512MB DDR, I wanted to bring my FPS up.

I did A LOT of research(Including Drivers, ATI vs NVIDIA, etc.) I was about to buy GeForce 5600 when I came upon few websites stating that GeForce 4 4400 is much faster and reliable then 5600.

I was surprised to find a good EVGA GeForce Ti4400 for 125$ US.

I ordered it last week, it's suppose to be here any week now(The guy sent it through Priority Mail)

Anyways, tell me what you guys think,

Here is a pic of my video card:

Benchmarks etc could be found herehref] http://www.devhardware.com/c/Hardware/Video_Cards/e-GeFORCE4_Ti4400/1/[/href]

P.S: I had Ati Rage Fury 2000 before this.

You would have been far better off with a Radeon, but I hope you enjoy it .

FX is a much newer technology. If you followed their time line, they released the video card 1 month before the actual due date in order to keep in competition with ATI. Believe me, it's very hard to find a good driver for your FX.

I still wouldn't buy FX due to it's massive compatibility problems.

Don't believe me? Do a quick google search, if you want a card similar to FX, go with ATI.

Almost forgot to say that my Mobo is 4x compatible. If I was going to switch to FX, I would see about 2% drop in fps(VS 8X mobo)

Me I will always get GeForce I dont know way. Just thought youd
like the FX, but that 4400 is still good. Its not to hard to find a
good but cheap card you just got to look in the right places.

Nevertheless, that's a bad deal-- http://www.pricewatch.com/ has that card for $103. I would have gone with the RADEON 9600 XT 256MB, for $195, which is far faster and more powerful.

'speac of the devil I just got it FedX'

Good for you

'Yea, 9800 XT 256 Oc'ed w/ extra big fan will get over 25k in 3DMark01.'

I'm wondering what'd happen if we ran modern 3dmark technology on computers of 10 years in the future. Er, if Win32bit excecutables are still supported.

you mean the overflow buffer only found within the 45.xx and 51.xx drivers? which caused OpenGL games using OpenGL 1.2 Standards or Lower to fail to initilise, which has since been corrected in the 52.16 Drivers.

Aside from this minor problem which annoyed me for about 2months whilst they sorted it out. With the exception of static objects on the GeForce2 i've never had a problem with a GeForce based card.

Quote: "Believe me, it's very hard to find a good driver for your FX."

Mmmoki, this with the fact that ALL GeForceFX cards will run far better on the Native Forceware Drivers (infact MUST be made 100% compatible) and if you can't find nvidia.com there is something wrong with you, especially as you can access the actual driver page itself from the display menu on the nview panel.

It not only is noiser than an FX5950 OC at 580mhz (fastest both cards can safely go) but the FX5950 will allow for automatic adjustments to maintain your card always at a cool temperature which means that if it runs at more 120°F for more than 5minutes it will automatically slow down your GPU to cope with the excess heat, even though the fan itself is variable speed to demand.
It is also, moderately SILENT, so it doesn't sound like an aircraft taking off.
Not to mention the FX5950 will happily run on a 230watt PSU, RXT's standardly will reboot your system every so often because there isn't enough power unless you have atleast a 300watt PSU; even then it can still happen more often that you'd like. Best option is to get yourself an APU unit to prevent the sudden power surges the card causes.

Add to this the speed scores between the two cards are negleable, and honestly; i've never had any luck with any sodding Radeon in my systems. I keep buying them in the hope they'll get better, and everytime so far it just reaffirms my hatred of these cards.

Also the FX5700Ultra pushes 18,000 in Mark01 on its own merits, i don't see what your point is with the score in that as the speed is a waste of time for current games and no one uses DirectX 8.0 anymore. (btw the RXT 9800 OC 580Mhz 256mb only hits 19,500 in Mark01; don't try and BS me otherwise because i've seen this in my Athlon64 FX-51 machine, and your card should be working on its own merits no those of the CPU)

The GeForce4 Titainiums are still MORE than fast enough to push regular 3D and low-end shaders. Hell they can quite happily keep up with the Radeon 9600pro... which isn't bad for thier price.
That said the FX5700 Ultra is still cheaper than the RXT9600 and can outperform even that card quite happily; especially in the newer games)

-- -- --

people want to rub the Radeon stuff around, or you want to propogate the Anti-FX Bull i hear daily; then actually USE them to get your facts than from the internet.

Who runs a system capable of taking advantage of a fx5950 on a 230w psu? That is the weakest argument I have ever heard.

I remember the static collision problem on GeForce 2 video cards.

Was this problem addressed in DB Pro?

And if you take a look at benchmarks, FX5950 is faster then 9800XT 256(Something I didn't know about when I made the previous post)

As for the driver problem, I didn't know that 52.xx drivers were out. Which means that I was reading some old posts about GeForce FX.

You probably will never notice this, but ATI 9800XT(not sure about Pro or Se) gives out a high-pitched noice which you won't hear in a noisy case.

P.S: Does GeForce 5950 Ultra take up AGP+PCI slot?

Seem to disagree, except with a few games where the new FX beatws the new XT by a couple FPS.

And last I heard, the newest FX did take up two slots, which is a huge deal.
