SoundMatter? I never heard of SoundMatter.

If you want to make your own models, I suggest Milkshape!

Very easy to use+professional, if you got more money to spend get Lightwave or 3D Max.

With these modelling tools you can easily make models+levels.

For sound+Music, you can search google, there are plenty of sounds.

Ive been thinking about, and was wondering if instead of DBP, i just go with DBC. I have never programmed before, so im probably not going to be using all the features of DBP right off the bat. But I might later, what do you think I should do?

DPB is much better. The new functionality makes programming easier. Plus, it's faster; and as a n00b programmer, (like me). There will be loads of things in your code that will slow the program down. You'll need all the speed you need.....

Go milkshape, man - I'm getting it thanks to Christmas money. You can't go wrong with that one.

Also get CharacterFX if you're into DBPro and seriously want animations.

Get a decent graphics card (I found this out the hard way).

Okeydokey
Models:Either DarkMatter or gameSpace or trueSpace3.2 or gmax

Music:Finale Notepad. Use your PC mic to record wavs, or pay $20 to
get MIDI export

Sound FX:Your oral cavity and a PC mic, or SoundMatter.

Textures:MS Paint!!! It is still good. Or if you can bounce it
Paint Shop Pro.

OutdoorLevels:Magic World from all-seeing-i.com

IndoorLevels:Just use a modeller, or 3d Map Editor, or even better- Cartography Shop.

Collisions/Gravity:Nuclear Glory's DLLS

Actual Development: DBP or DBC, if you get DBC get Enhancement pack

These progs are your friend. Pay special attention to Magic World, edit matrices, make them bigger then allowed in DB, make multiple matrices, put 3d objects on them, then load them using a function provided royalty-free with the software. Plus the whole thing itself is free. Uses analog matrix height adjustment instead of tile by tile editing.

My fingers are tired.........

Save your money for pizza and caffiene.

Metasequoia 2.1(3d low level, free), DoGA CGA (3D studio, free), Pixia (2d graphics art program, free), Milkshape 3D (3d low level + animation, shareware.)

Best advice, download a ton of trial programs and decide which ones you like.

As an alternate to Sound Matter, Cosmi has a 6,000 sound clips CD for $10-$20 that you can buy at places like Office Depot. Also, search the internet there are free/public domain music and sound FX libraries out there Golgotha is an excellent example. The key is to do a lot of searching (like several days of searching.) Additionally, many music artis are willing to license their music simply for getting their name in the game credits. Don't be afraid to ask.
