It was inevitable man would one day conquer the stars. But where man went, he took his selfish indulgence. At first, man moved peacefully from system to system, building new worlds, finding new forms of life. Yet nothing is comparable to man and his machine, the star traveller, the moving cities, the orbiting giants. Friction developed and factions became the balance of power. Three leading groups arose into giant conglomerates, syndicates formed by the same agency which gave wealth and power to those in command. The Caracal with their fast ships and large navy. The Regents, the caretakers of Sol. And Terra Plata, adventurous colonisers who regularly move from system to system consuming everything in their wake. A brittle alliance was fostered under the pretence each faction staid their territory. With the fragile alliance built on hearsay, contracts between the nation factions grew thin. All it needed was a spark. And this came in 2557, the start of the Trapezia War. This distant place, filled with newly formed planets and abundant wealth, stretched vast distances. And in amongst these riches sat an benign ancient being, alien technology holding knowledge only the most fantastical could dream possible. And so a fight began. Who will win to access this treasure and behold the secrets of the ancient universe.
Battlefleets - The Aquila Legacy is a two player card game. Different cards access game mechanics and provide the course of the game. Weapon cards are used to attack the enemy, defence cards are there to deflect an enemy attack. Tactical cards work like trap cards and are kept to the side until the game condition is met and the card set to active play. Screen cards are simple grid access cards, they allow a player to locate the enemy ships before the enemy finds your fleet. Initiative cards further a player's chances. The alien technology cards give access to superior weapons, systems and power which can tip the balance towards the owners favour. There are four token types in the game, weapon tokens, system tokens, power tokens and command tokens. How these are used will greatly effect the games outcome. The game is played with game dice with special markings to contain the game elements. Systems and weapons are represented on the board in hex squares in the battle computer. A tactical token has values from 0 to 9. These are gained and spent through gameplay and are a key element in game strategy.
