move the textures with the exported model to a folder in your game or leave in the top folder of your game.

I mean the media viewer that comes with DBC if you go to media>media viewer the model I am using is skined I used a photo of a real gun and put it onto my model. so I dont think you can say it is just textured. I have tried exporting it into DBC media files but it does not export the skin.

whoops my mistake DBC calls it media browser not media viewer. Anyways that is were I whant my gun to be so I can simply add it to any future projects. But I whant the skin on it to. I cant just send the texture to DBC because it is photo. I used milkshapes texure coordinator to pain pieces of the photo onto certain peices of the gun.

Try moving model and texture in same folder with texture extension in ".bmp" format. Use only load object ".3ds",1 and automatically loads 3d model with texture.

or using texture command to apply texture as ".jpg",".bmp",".tga", etc...

I is not really a texture. I had a picture of a real gun then I used milkshape to apply pieces of the texture onto the model I skinned it as you could say. I dont think DBC will skin it the way I had it if I just use the texture object command. I need someway to export the model with textures on it ino dbc.

I am using 1 photo but I used different parts of the photo for different parts of the gun I tried exporting directly into my project folder but the model still appears blank. How do I post images? I was going to put a picture of the model up but dont know how to post them.

can you even export models with skins into dbc. I have tried alot of different things and it dont work. if you cant export models with skins then dbc sucks.

Simply export the model from the program you created it in, into *.3DS then, put that model whereever you're going to use it with your project, then, save the textures ( "skins" as you keep calling it ) and place them in exactly the same folder as the model.

Now, when loading the model, use Load Object "whatever.3DS",1

And that will load the model with the textures ( "skins" ) applied and ready to go.

That's all you have to do

Hope I Helped...

I will try that but I dont think it will work right because I used a special tool in milkshape to skin the model. but I will try.

I am not too familiar with MilkShape, but is there an option to save the texture?

If there is, save it as a *.bmp file, then place it into the directory with the model and load it.

That *should* work fine.

Hope I Helped...

I have encountered a problem I saved the photo I am using to "my pictures" and when I go to copy picture it lets me copy to dark basic but my dark basic file that has my model does not show up to copy to. so I cant copy it to the same folder.

Um... that's odd. Did you hide the folder?

Just right-click >> Copy then go to where your folder is and right-click >> Paste and it should be there.

Hope I Helped...

wow I think I got it kind of anyway. I used the texture object command. and dark basic almost perfectly lined up the texture with the object. Unfortunatly a few areas the texture didnt line up as good as it was in milkshap but as soon as I scale it down to the size it will be for my FPS those seems shouldnt be to noticeable. Thank you alot Jessticular.

OK, you used the MS3D Texture Cordinator. If there is an option, save the UV map, then texture the model with that.

I am not sure if there is a way to save the uv map I will ask the milkshape forum. Dark basic makes this way to hard

Dark Basic doesnt make it hard, you inablility to use Milkshape 3D Does JK I NEVER use the texture cordinator, do a google search for Lithunwrap, use that to UV map objects.

I found lithunwrap and downloaded it but It wont let me save or export with the demo so I cant see if it works. Does it work good? I dont know if I whant to pay $30 dollars for a UV mapping tool if I dont even know if it works good. I didnt even spend that much for darkbasic .

milkshape 3d automatically saves the uv data when you export it if you have used the texture coordinator. try exporting to .x instead of .3ds, i've never had good experiences using .3ds, and besides i don't think you can save animation data with 3ds.
