i am new to xp and dbpro i need it all to be black
background and white text including the menues.

Unfortunatly the developer and source code for the ide have disapeared so if you can't change the colours how you need in the options you will have to use one of the alternatives to the original ide.
Have a look in the program announcement and work in progress boards.

I use blueide http://blueide.sf.net/ it doesn't use fancy stuff like the default ide so should use the windows colours. It's also open source so if you know anyone with a copy of visual basic 6 you can get them to change the colours to exactly what you want.

In editor you can go into system options and change font colour and background colour to be whatever you like.

You can also change the colors etc in the Twilight IDE avaliable from my link below.
