Hello Game Devs,
so I have been silently working on this passion project for some time and finally want to post about it.

It's about a Retro Themed Skateboarding Game, inspired by cult classics such as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Thrasher Skate and Destroy, 1080 Snowboarding and Wave Race 64. Add to that a good amount of 90s street culture and you should have a good idea of the game's premise.

Recently I published a quick Teaser Tweet about it:
https://twitter.com/sebastian_pauli/status/1665400900100280323

The game is being developed in classic AGK2 Basic and free tools such as Gimp, Inkscape and Wings 3D.

If you would like to help me out with some feedback:
What do you think of the working title "Low Skater (64)"?
I think it fits the theme of low poly / low res graphics quite well and also is a little pun to "Pro Skater"
But I'm not a native English speaker so I'm not quite sure...

I will try to update this thread from time to time with more details, a more fleshed out trailer is also in the works, so stay tuned!

Peace

hey, _Pauli_.

the vid looks great; looking forward to a demo

as far as a name, i think a better working title might be "Retro Skater", "SK8R" or "pRo sK8r" where "Low Skater" doesn't make sense to me even with the connection to the "low-poly" work. i was never much of a skateboarder so others might have better suggestions.

if you want the 64 in it, i vote "SK8R-64":

meanwhile, if you can embed the vid or post a screenshot in your first post, that would be ideal

for those who can't wait:

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

Lots of work to do so please don't be mad at me if answers take a while

I like "Retro Skater", gonna put it on my list. I already thought about "sk8r" abbreviations, but I'm not a big fan of those, because I fear it could cause some confusion (and domain names would look rather cryptic).

Also thanks for the nice mockup! My current working title in-game looks like this:

So I have to think about the final name some more, without being too distracted from actually developing the game...

Thanks for the hints!

Unfortunatly I do not know

Sounds cool, but there won't be any large jumps or massive air time as in Tony Hawk games, so not much that a skater would classify as an "acid drop"

Made some progress on a level editor for the game:

EDIT: I'm getting an error trying to upload the image! Whenever I choose a file to attach and click "Upload File", it loads but then nothing appears. Hosting it myself for now, but maybe a moderator can try to fix this please

looking good, _pauli_

and, i reported the issue re: attaching files a couple of days ago. TGC knows of the issue. meanwhile, Imgur is good and the forums dont seem to override the models in my testing (there was a time when the forums forced certain dimensions for images. dunno if that's still under the hood).

thanks for the update

Thanks guys

And thank you Virtual Nomad for reporting the image issue!

Yes, I have an internal data structure for geometries with vertex and face buffers and whenever the geometry is modified, a memblock mesh is updated.

A cool genre I haven't seen much in the AppGameKit space. Looking good! Do you have any more videos on the gameplay?

Thanks!

Yes, I'm actually working to release a teaser video with more gameplay soon.
The custom level editor has been a real game changer so far, as it allows me to quickly sketch some scenery for that.

I think it would be funny if you had some random cut scene where a scooter tries to come into the park and gets chased out.

Thanks for the idea! Unfortunatly implementing cut scenes is still far away at this stage.
Right now it's all about developing the core gameplay loop of exploring sandbox-style levels (mostly skate parks) while practicing your tricks and improving your skills.
