They have been talking about retiring it for the last 12 months or so because its difficult to support due to the IDE being based on a very old version of Geany. I also preferred the Classic version but decided about 6 months ago to stop using it as the last update was very broken and has never been fixed.

It's still sad to read though.

You could still use Classic to write your games and then use Studio to export them.

I just wish that tgc would allow customising the studio ide so we can turn off the faff and have a proper function/variable list on the side of the screen

The source code is available so you can customise the IDE if you want to, and I'm already trying to make it more like Classic

Is there a big difference between the Classic and Studio Compiler? Or is it only the ide? Have Studio since yesterday.

Code wise they are interchangeable, studio is more strict on some variable stuff which is nice, it's just the god awful IDE which is bad. Even Unity worked this out editing in their system opens a separate ide to code in.

You can use the Visual Studio Code extension if you really dislike the Studio Editor.

What is it you dislike about the Studio editor so much?

It's to cramped for me I prefer the open coding area rather than the image selection etc, also functions and variables are drop-down lists

I just close all of the media windows and just keep the editor, file and message windows open.

As Zaxxan said you can easily turn off all the windows you don't need and move around/dock the rest and make it look similar to AppGameKit Classic's IDE. Once I did that after I purchased Studio I never went back to classic. I also prefer the builtin help, just don't forget that the cursor has to be active in the code editor window for the F1 (Help) to work.

I'm not much for the built in app personally and would prefer the Classic approach. At the moment I'm trying to add an option to the source code to change the functionality of the F1 key so that it works like the Clasdic version

If you do that and you want it to be included in a future version I suggest not to exclude the internal help, but to make it optional so the user can choose between the IDE Window or the external browser. That could be a nice addition.

Yes it would be an option in preferences, either internal or online. That's if I can program it!

I miss the line TrimRight option in Studio, when saving the file and convert tab to X spaces. This would be quality of life.

I've now added an option to either use the Classic help system or the built in help (Enable F1 Browser Help)
