For a slightly more cheerful topic .

Some games dissapoint, some you like, but don't end up playing much, and some are only good for one or two runs through... but there are a rare few you that you just keep playing and playing and get many, many more hours for your buck than you usually do.

The Diablo II Battle Chest is an example of this. $40 for Diablo, Diablo II, the Diablo II expansion, and a strategy guide. The guide was useful for introducing me to the game, though now I can poke holes in its strategies and have noticed it is riddled with typos. I play Diablo II a lot online, probaly more than I play most other games altogether. It's a very enjoyable expirience, a very well made game with many many layers of strategy to it. Diablo one was good for a play or two through, reminded me of old times . Altogether very very valuble!

I also got my ATI Radeon 9500 Pro for $127 and it's a great video card, especially for that price

And I salvaged my dad's 'dead' flatscreen monitor, so there's a flatscreen display for free

Buying DarkBASIC was probaly one of the smartest things I've ever done, too

but flaming crappy games is just so much fun!

i got my radeon 9500 pro for $124 great video card, but of course my computer's just plain slow, so it doesn't help much.

smash brothers (original for N64) was certainly the game i've played the longest in my life. i have more than 270 hours logged in it. what's scary, about 240 of those hours were logged in about a month!

my sound blaster 16 PCI is also probably my "favorite thing for so little money". it cost me $22 and i used it (and was quite happy with it) for almost 5 years. it never gave me any problems and sounded great. my nForce integrated audio is great too, but it just isn't the same as my old SB16. i think i'll have it mounted.

athlon xp 2000+ | radeon 9500 pro 128mb | 512MB crucial DDR | winXP pro | DBP P5.1b | B3D 1.85 | VC++ 6
predicted DBP P6 release date: March 28, 2004
predicted patch DBP will actually be useful: P18

Totally agree with you. Have you had the honour of playing Invisible War yet though?

No! The download keeps cutting out half way through and I can't get any Download Managers to work.

Never mind ...... more and more mirrors are popping up so one should work soon.

Well, this was, like, last year, and is, like, the best development software (and goes well with DBPro) :

Visual Studio .Net 2003 Professional

Its, like, great man

The next best thing so far (which I haven't brought - just looking at), is the AutoInsult program...

Hmm, bought, or got as a gift? Bah, both will do...

Dark Basic Pro

Obvious reason why thats on the list.

Microsoft Visual C++ .net Standard

As soon as I can learn a good ammount, I'm moving to DirectX or OpenGL.

Diablo II Battle Chest

Best...Game...Ever!!!

.hack//Infection .hack//Mutation .hack//Outbreak (and soon to include .hack//Quarantine)

Best series I've ever played. Gives me a lot of inspiration too. I wanna get the whole DVD set of .hack//Sign, but chances of me finding those are slim.

Pendragon Series Books, Harry Potter Series Books, and the Jade Falcon Trilogy Battletech Book.

Best books I've ever read!

Unreal Tournament 2003

MWUHAHAHAHA!!! Its great when you play this, and you become the most dangerous person in the arena after getting a lightning gun.

Many Many Other Things

If I were to list them all, I'd have a post bigger then one of Ravens rants

Cheers,
Preston

Quote: "Pulp Fiction - Coletor's DVD
"

hohoho...best part of that movie is Samuel L Jackson's quote from the bible.

Quote: " "The path
of the righteous man is beset on
all sides by the inequities of the
selfish and the tyranny of evil
men. Blessed is he who, in the
name of charity and good will,
shepherds the weak through the
valley of darkness, for he is truly
his brother's keeper and the finder
of lost children. And I will
strike down upon thee with great
vengeance and furious anger those
who attempt to poison and destroy
my brothers. And you will know my
name is the Lord when I lay my
vengeance upon you.""

then he shoots...lol

For Christmas a few people have got those battery powered bikes... They look quite good fun - fast too.
And I do have a driving license - aside from the fact I dont like driving, I dont particularly want to give the goverment any more of my hard earned money...

Deus Ex for $6 from a discount store online. Best game I ever bought. Thief was great, but I got that for free. I have played the invisible war demo, and I'm very disappointed.

Best Software:

MILKSHAPE: It's awesome...

DBPro: Messing around with the demo's a blast. Can't wait for my order to come in.

FREESPACE+ SILENT THREAT PACK: Got it for $10.00. This game is the best space sim before Freespace 2. Never got around to playing the sequal however .

One Must Fall: Someone got me this for Christmas in 1995. The best beat-em-up for the PC - argueably still today.

VIRTUA FIGHTER 4 EVOLUTION - (PS2): The Very Best Fighting Game on the planet -period. I got it for $20.00 last month.

The best thing I ever bought was my jeans! Without my jeans I would have been too embarrassed to go out and buy Incas Curse Text Adventure! Incas Curse was the best game I ever bought because I broke into the game and studied the code. It was that code that got me started in programming, and so I bought Amos! Amos was similar to DB which is the best language I ever worked with!

No game compares to N64's Goldeneye 007. I played that game for the longest time in multiplayer. Then I found out It was really good in single player as well. Not a common thing in games today.

Best thing? Property in the London area. Hmmm, Florida is looking mighty cheap in comparison now....

Best game? Elite of course. Tut. Esp. with the eye dongle thingy. Almost cried at the time when I couldn't get it to work for a while. I mean £15 for a speccy game.

Cheers

Best buy was an extra 256 megs of rdram, the old 400mhz one though. performance increased drastically.

Anyone else with "wierd" ram numbers, like 384? hehe
