Hello DarkBASIC users,

I am not sure what the policy is here on posting about other products related to DarkBASIC, but if I am breaking any rules, I apologize in advance.

I am an employee here at Insight Concepts, and we just released the first Beta to our professional lightmapping application titled: Luminescence 3D. You can use it to enhance your levels with realistic lighting and shadows, and as soon as DarkBASIC releases its own file format, Luminescence 3D will support it.

In addition to the beta release, we are also sponsoring a lightmapping contest. Anyone is welcome to enter, and the top 5 entries will win a free copy of Luminescence 3D when it officially releases 2/2/2004.

To find out more about Luminescence 3D and download information follow the following link: http://www.insight-concepts.com/products/luminescence3d/

If you are interested in entering the contest, you can find out more here: http://forum.insight-concepts.com

Sincerely,
Team Concepts

Don't know why so few people have replied to this or it hasn't been stickied. Looks like a really nice program, and the fact that it helped to make the following screenshot is impressive.

I look forward to being able to try it.

EDIT: Actually, you should try posting about this in program announcements.

Yes, but it's hard to find good 3d programs to make levels with lightmapping and export to .x

Hello Guys,

Luminescence 3D is currently fully compatible with DarkBASIC, and you can export your lightmapped .X scenes from Luminescence 3D strait into DarkBASIC. And what you see is what you get. So the way your scene appears in Luminescence 3D will appear the same in your game.

As for the price, $65.95 is extremely low for what you receiving. Remember Luminescence 3D is still in Beta, and we have 30 more features planned for the final version, including an animated texture setup for creating blinking effects..etc..etc.

Also, when you purchase any product from Insight Concepts, you are purchasing piece of mind. We have a 24/7 toll free support line you can call for when you get stuck on a problem. And one other advantage you receive from buying from an established company is the fact you know 2 years from now the product you invested in will still be supported. How many times have you purchased a product from an independent developer and they just abandoned the product with no prior warning? You know the old saying “You get what you pay for.

Sincerely,
Team Concepts

Hello Megaton,

Using Luminescence 3D is very strait forward and you should have no problems using it. But in the event you do, Luminescence 3D has an extensive help file that covers everything from using the application, to explaining the difference between point, directional, and spot lights. And you always have the option of calling our 24/7 support line to speak with a support specialist who can walk you through it step by step.

Sincerely,
Team Concepts

Managed to get an 'Object Buffer Undefined' compiler error whilst trying to do a lightmap for the craft from the LTypedemo. First it complained the lightmap wouldn't fit the craft, so I ignored that and let it continue. After a long wait during the compliation, it came up with that message.

Would be nice if you could scale objects too.

Thank you indi for making this post sticky.

@TCA If it is possible, can you e-mail us a copy of this level? L3DBetaTest@Insight-Concepts.com
We would like to examine the level and see what is causing the error.

Thank you,

how would you go about making blinking lights? or animated lights?

surely that would mean the export of multiple lightmaps and you need to code yourself all the animation frames in, wouldent it?

but isnt realtime retexturing of a level slow down alot?

@Insight Concepts

Is it possible to change the detail of the lightmaps? I know its possible to increase the size of the texture, but the actual lightmap stays the same quality.

Its the best lightmapper I've seen, but still to expensive for a light mapper. Most of us have second thoughts about buying a 3d modeling+texturing+animating program for $20.

The actual program (ie. the menus, options, buttons, etc...) ran really slooooow on my computer (P4 2.0Ghz,512ram, geforce 4,windows xp).

Thanks.

@ dark coder
Yes L3D will export the multiple lightmaps for you, and you will have to setup the frames with code. Note: L3D will show you how it will look with real-time playback within the application itself.

@Oliver
Yes you can change the detail of a lightmap by adjusting the lumel size. Also blurring can have an affect on the detail of your lightmaps.

@ Everyone
We will look into the slow menu response issue. This is why we released a public beta, to catch and squash minor bugs like the ones you are reporting.

Note: Please set your video card Anti-Aliasing setting to application preference for greater performance.

G bros. You wont find anything nearly as high quality in cart shop. For most people cart shop's lightmapping will do just fine but I prefer something closer to render quality.

You can do it in CartShop, it just takes a while. There used to be an option called Grab a Beer and it was an incredibly high resolution of lightmapping, but it was taken out because it took forever.
