Hey there, I'm currently creating models/animations for a game using milkshape 3d. I'll admit my 3d experience has been slightly limited, mostly to some work in 3ds max for a Warcraft 3 mod that never came to anything and a few personal models, but i know what I'm doing most of the time. However, animation for DB classic is causing my massive headaches. From what I've been able to understand, to rig a model you need to split it into different parts and then link them to "bones". I can't find any way to make parents/children in milkshape though, and any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated (including redirecting me if my reasoning is wrong). Also, anything you might be able to tell me about what all tose options mean in the .x exporter would help me consiterably. Excuse my newbishness in these matters. Sorry about the long post. My fingers hurt.

Well, my problem isn't using Milkshape, I can create a model with no trouble. My problem is rigging and animationg a model so that the .x exporter will be able to read the file, and so DB (classic) will be able to use it. Any tuts for that specific thing that you know of?

Wait... i just looked around the site a bit- is rigging the model as easy as doing it the normal, attach some bones to the model way? I keep on running into massive problems (like the entire model moving (prob due to the fact that it was one geo set) or the model just disapearing when the animation was played... so, uh, help me?) when I import the model to DB when I just do it in that way. Whats my problem?

From Ms3D export in .3ds,open the file using the DB converter(in the Tools Folder),every bit of data should be kept intact but note that the last version of Ms3d I used was 1.5.x

Note that there is no need to convert or save to an .X file in DBC since it can load .3ds and automatically converts them once inside, that's what I used to do.

...And I'm gone...

you can only attach one bone to one group, and all the groupes must be attached to bones else you'll see that a non-assigned group is moving around very weirdly. and export the model with the: DirectX (JT) plugin and then it must look like:

[href]http:\\members.lycos.nl\darkyorick\images\milkshape shot.JPG[/href]

if I = 1 then I = 1 else I = 0

Db work with limbed animations. To make limbed model each limb have to be one group (well dont have to but I recomend to do it) of faces and one group have to be attached only to one joint. You can of course have several groups attached to one joint but then they will act like one limb when animating.
Othervise build your skelet like usual starting with one parent joint and adding child joints for each limb. Joints have to be linked together, so there is only one joint which is parent to all others.
