I was a little disappointed that for the money, GS did not appear to be able to texture bake large complex objects. I am trying to light map an internal scene but it crashes due to too many polygons. I know it's not recommended to lightmap-bake a complex scene but i'm desparate. Perhaps cartshop 4 will be able to do it.
Any thoughts on other programs I could try.

Cart shop should do it. gile[s] is really nice too.

Kevil made a free lightmapper a few months back - I have no idea where it's stored now, but perhaps checking the program announcements for the last year would find it. It uses a memblock mesh as the format, so you'd have your model in .X format and a lightmap object that you'd load into a memblock and turn into a mesh. I reckon Kevils version will either not care about the polycount, or crash trying to compute it.

Either way it's free.
