How is it that everyone on these forums seems to know who each other are? I've been here for a fair bit of time now, and over time i've noticed how certain people always notice each other, like they say "Hey fallout, you changed your avatar" for example. You know what i mean, the regulars. I'm not a regular here, but i try and post a couple of things, and i was just wondering how much it takes before you can be considered a regular here. -Dave

PS: This is a bit of a rubbishy post, so ignore it, if that floats your boat.

Your soul...it tastes like chicken

i've been following darkbasic since spring 2000. i didnt really become active in the forums till 1.08 retail came out.

there are a few that have known me for a while, but it's the new ones that dont really know me.

btw there are older members than me

but if you come on a forum most days and talk to people, you get to know them and creates a friendly forum atmosphere

it's just the 2003/2003 new people that come waltzing in here thinking they own the place that annoys me

lagmasteruk - http://www.lagmaster.net is alive! http://www.dbforums.co.uk/ - another db forum!

Dark Snippet Pro V9.2 is out!!

Basically if I recognise someone's name then I consider them a regular. And since I recognise your name I'd say you're a regular. It doesn't really mean much though, just that you either stay here too long or have been around quite a while.

Actually, I think of you as more of a fly, you're always there but you don't seem to contribute anything worthwhile.

Oldbie,semi-oldbie,rookie,veteran,lurker,regular...Most people haven't been here the same amount of time.

Still,I can see a good few names that are still around since '99 so I guess they are the regulars.

Nevertheless, the most popular member posted around 7 replies in his whole successful(afa popularity) DB time...Zennicanin14.

I dont remember eric T from back then but i dont want to cause any heartache over that and I dont see the same enthusiam with code snippets or huge ideas from back then also.

Perhaps a new wave of users are in a learning process before we see good things.

I recognize you. I know everyone who's posted here actually. I can't instantly remember posts you've made, but the avatar+name combinations are easily recognizable .

I recognise everyone here except Eric T (sorry, but now I know you !) I guess "regulars" are just the people who post enough to be noticed. I guess using the IRC chatroom (which I don't much) probably helps as well.

check the wip forum, there's a topic with 99.999% in it. less than a month old. check that.

aahhh darkbasiccodebase.co.uk it seems everyone has forgotten about that. now when looking at it, it's just filled with rubbish now. was it kenith mcinnes? or something like that, who ran it.

if anyone wonders where some of the oldies are, some are on llrgt, some use blitz now, some just disappear. it's the apollo forum that what caused the split.

I'm quite regular. But then I like bran flakes

Most people left cos of Blitz or cos they got bored of the forums.

Personally I like the forum. Might not be what it once was, but it beats a few forums for humour now and again

Really? Can't remember at all. Interestingly though, are you the same mouse that was around yonks ago? Can't remember the handle, but it had mouse in it, but was not just "mouse". If you see what I mean.

Hell, I remember when Dr Av. was right up there. And for the newer lot, what about Equillibrium? Good stuff.

After being a regular here for over a year now, I've discovered I don't contribute to these forums as much I would like to. After posting 1007 times, I'm begining to wonder what percentage of my posts were actually useful or worthy of attention.

One thing is certain, I spend too much time in the General Forum. Come to think of it, a lot of us spend to much time in the General Forum

van B that was asheron being an idiot regarding passing away,
It caused a huge uproar and then it slid into whether he is male or female.

I was also reported to be disembowled by a big red kangaroo when I went

Oh yeah, the old is Ash actually a bird discussion. Funny. Most amusing how many people started "helping" him/her out a lot more after that one.

Was Ash the one with the massive (ie. 30,000 lines of code) demo of some robot walking over a flat landscape? The one that seemed to be really hyped up (by him), but never was released, and always looked like a 20 liner? Very funny that one.

Yeah, that's the same as me. I recognise the names and avatars but just don't know what projects there working on, what they've done and who exactly they are heh.

Quote: "Take Exeat for example. I know he had another avatar before that one, it was some guy in a mask...he was red "

lol yeah, that was a long time ago. Back when I despised sig images as well I think Red General started using the same avatar so I had to change to a unique one because I kept mistaking his posts for ones I'd made lol. I remember you used to have the funny guy I can't remember the name of with the AK-47. It was classic.

Fear the Deadpool Avatar!

Anyway, I originally found DarkBASIC in 2000 when there was no DBP and it had that really dark site with the yellow mask logo thing which I'm not sure what it was supposed to be. Unfortunately the 'IDE' DBC used threw me off completely, I couldn't stand looking at that thing. urghh. So it wasn't until 2002 when DBP was released that I started getting interested in it again, I sort of browsed the forums for answers to any questions I might have had (without actually posting anything, mind you), usually I would find what I was looking for so I never actually registered until about November 2002. Then silly old me forgot my password and ended up re-registering in February 2003. Seems so long ago now, lol.

Am I a regular? I'd be pretty surprised if I am, seeing as this is my 73rd post.

I too discovered a DBC demo on some magazine coverdisk, and since it didnt have a time limit, i used that up until the alienware compo started so i could get my hands on the 90-day demo of DBP. That's about when i started posting on the forums, i think. Then I got DBP for christmas! yay!

Anyone remember the 'Barrel of fun' game post where one guy posed a fake company and said he was working on a professional game? I actually defended him... wouldn't do it today of course... obviously nothing turned out of it, as do all the fakes.
