congrats to Roomwar- it really is a fantastic, smooth game!

I got some nice comments about my entry, which made me happy, even though I didn't place (UFO CATCHER). the game was a HUGE learning experience, and basically turned me from a beginner to DB intermediate programmer! The code for that game is SO MUCH better than my first game, and my next game's code will be even better!!

I hope everyone else, like me, will be spending the night playing everyone's entries

Hey Jimmy I think you have some issues. You have a very negative attitude towards people you know nothing about. Hopefully on your journey through life you can resolve these issues.

But you'll most likely be stuck that way for the rest of your life since you were dropped too many times as a small infant.

Have a nice day Jimmy

hey Tasik that's kinda sad to hear, but I must admit that will take a break from DB too ...to move to DBpro !
Seriously I think this game I made (CowAbductor) was one of the last I'll ever do with DB/pro.

before going off topic, I would like to congrats all those who entered, especially the one who made Roomwar.

To everyone that made worst that they expected, you've got a complete game in 4 months, that is already pretty good !

I just finished playing Roomwars on my lowly system(1800ghz-win98-gf2 64mb-256ddr) and it ran very smoothly. I really enjoyed it and especialyl loved the FOV thing, great stuff. The room was medeled perfectly and looks soo good!

Congrats again!!

Yes RoomWar was my favourite. It was very exciting, and was my hot tip. But the less said about my hot tip, the better.

I actually Liked Operation: Invasion Evasion a little bit better then RoomWar, just because I am a "Cannon Fodder Groupie" but it was a close race, that and RoomWar got kinda repetive after a while.

I really wish i would of finished my third person shooter, but time constraints and PC problems really F*cked me like Anna Nicole, But hey it shouldn't be time to Bitch about myself, it should be time to get drunk and congratulate Damjan Minovski and Ervin Tahirovic, for putting out the game.

Oh and congrats to the rest of you competiters.

I still haven't played Roomwar, there's no way it would run on my machine - congratulations to the authors though, it's certainly stunning.

Congrats to Frogger and Esc too, and everyone else that beat me! .

It's funny but my computer is slow, and always gets the worst scores in tests, but Roomwar runs fine, quite fast.

I cant get the Operation: invasion Evasion to work. It says "Could not load sound at line 148". I'm not sure that's the line's number. Do I have to install to a sertain directory?

I think that's a DX driver problem. I'm working on a new version, where I'm adding more options to control sound as well as a more debugged sound loader system. I think it must be drivers, like a weird DBPro sound glitch because it works on most PC's. What OS do you have and also what version of DX? - I think DX9.0b is required if you don't already have that. The new version will allow you to set the sound to 2D instead of 3D (I'm thinking it's the 3D sound drivers that are goosed).

Anyhoo, hope you download the updated version (no promises but probably a week or so till I can upload it) - it has a number of improvements including far better jeep collision handling and bullet trails.

Funny, I have not played any of the entries, but I knew RoomWar was going to win. His menu system so totally blew everyone out of the water marketting wise.

I think that's the real message that should be delivered. Designing a good game is not enough to win a sponsored event. Something for everyone to think about when the next contest of this nature comes around.

I'm using windows XP, Direct X9.0b, and a SoundBlaster Live. Though, I think I'm using the default Windows drivers instead of the ones that come with the card. I think it's a loading problem though. Mabe you used an absolute path? I checked again, the problem is on line 462...

Well, trying not to set up camp in someone elses thread...

Line 462 is a load sound line, but it's in amongst all the other sounds loading in, the sound loading starts at line 455 or something, so it's not a path problem. It loads all the sounds from the Sounds directory. As I said though, hoping to combat this weird bug with the next update.

[EDIT] - Update those drivers (from Creative website)! - then run DXDiag and try again please! - I remember someone (IanM?) mentioning the uptodate drivers in the showcase thread for OIE.
