The P4 is a power house.

AMD 2500 has less GFLOPS(the horse power of the processor)

AMD AthlonXP Thouroughbred 2500+ (1.8ghz) is equal speed to the Pentium4 2.52ghz

AMD AthlonXP Barton 2500+ (1.85ghz) is equal speed to the Pentium4 2.52ghz HT

AMD Athlon64 2800+ (1.6ghz) is faster than all of them

The Althon64 3200+ (2.0ghz) was recently released and that processor now sets the standard for the fatest on the market, even surpassing the Athlon64 FX-51.

if you want to go price for price though, you can pickup an AthlonXP 3200+ for less than you can get a Pentium4 2.52Ghz Standard
and that processor is capable of keeping up with the P4 3.0ghz HT.

Upto you what you choose though, think about it's all down to which you prefer; as they both are on the same power length.

Hu??? Sorry im confused

I have a choice between these two computers

This is all the information I was giving im just suppose to make a sugestion for some friends

They can get this for like $900

P4 2.5
256 DDRRam
80 GB Hard Drive
CD/RW
Black Case
Mouse/Keyboard/Speakers
XP-Home
(No monitor)

Or this for like $475
AMD 2500
512 Ram
Black Case
(No monitor)

CDRW/DVD Combo Drive + $99
80 GB Hard Drive + $119

I think the prices might be off but it was some thing like that and they both needed graphics cards but we already got those picked out.

Go with the second one, with both the lower additions to price you're still saving almost half a thousand in value

At Office Max... they have a:
>>Pentium4 2.5Ghz
>>512MB RAM
>>100GB Hard Drive
>>64MB Radeon Graphics Card (not sure which model)
>>18" LCD Display
>>DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW Drive
>>CD-R/RW, CD+R/RW Drive
>>3.5" Floppy Drive
>>2 30watt Speakers

For only $599 after $150 in rebates.
I think I might buy it. It's GREAT deal.

you will nit need a 64 bit processor till a new version of windows comes out they are just big MB cache and they are really not needed
but in about a year they might be used.

Divide i'd suggest you checkout the benchmarks done over at Futuremark of the AthlonXP-64 3200+ ... the Pentium4 3.2Ghz EE is not just whooped, it's beaten by a clear and comfortable 20% margin.

What surprised me was in some cases the AthlonXP-64 actually outperformed the Athlon64 FX-51 in some cases. Which shocked me

You think office max has deals?

this place my dad goes to has deals like nothing 400$ for a fully loaded AMD (no monitor) with a nice graphics card. but i was tempted to buy it but i figgure i'll just go out buy a case a motherboard and a new CPU since my celeron im afraid might be damaged from heat =\ got it to 121F one time...not a smart thing =\ so a nice case with a nice motherboard and cpu and scrap whats left...that might be whats causing my lag and slow down problems with my computer =\ afraid i might lose all my data good thing i got a CDRW to back it all up =) weeeee
