I am looking for a way to read and write text files that I can open with programs like notepad

You can do something like this:

+ Code Snippet

rem to WRITE a string
text_to_write$="Hello world"
open to write 1,"c:\test.txt" `make sure this file does not already exist
write string 1,text_to_write$
close file 1

rem To READ a string
open to read 1,"c:\test.txt"
read string 1,text_to_read$
print text_to_read$

suspend for key
