I'm considering purchasing DarkBASIC Professional from Amazon, but have a few questions just before I do.

First one is, Is it possible to create Windows Applications aswell as games.

Secondly, is there functionality in DarkBASIC to make "online" apps with some kind of socket system such as Winsock, or other socket control.

The development me and my team do is based more around Applications than games, so this would be what we would use DarkBASIC for. If this is not possible, can anyone suggest a language which can be used (that isn't VB or C++)

Sorry, DBP is aimed more at games development rather then apps. I don't know why you're against VB as it's perfect for what you want, but anyway, another one is Delphi so you might want to give that a look.

also, delphi is almost free from borland, if you can deal with the 700MB download and install.

Also, check out ................ that other basic that fred wrote.

Pure BASIC has TGC's aproval and it apparently does for applications what DB does for games. It should be what you need. Enjoy.

Careful about Borland's apps, though. They have all kinds of nasty little spy and ad wares hanging around in their downloads.

All my Borland's apps are package fresh, so I never say any sort of spy wares etc. Though I find that odd for such a big company.

I don't know about their delphi products, but their C++ builder instantly loaded my computer up with adware. Their delphi stuff coudl be friendlier, though.
