There it is, my very first 3d model. Just to let you know i haven't explored any tutorials, so if you know of any good beginner level tutorials that would be appreciated.

Anyway, don't hesitate to be critical about it. I need every advice to make it better. But please don't use rough and unimaginative things like "It sucks", just point out the areas that need some working on.

(btw: i'm bad at texturing, this one only has colour)

Oh yeah, poly count is 656. Too high, too low (wtf)?

That sucks... lol, jk...

Yeah that polly count is too high.

Can I ask, what did you make it in? I assume JTEdit?

Jess.

Nope, anim8or. I guess i went in too greedy with that subdivision lol (most of the polys go to the handle :/)

Well anyway here's another model. 136 polys.

I'm not an expert 3D modeller, but that 2nd model, the gun, is actually a very good effort. I'm guessing that with only being 136 polys it would probably not be animateable, and therefore best left as an NPC's model, rather than the player's.

I can however see that you've only bothered to UV the sides of the gun, rather than the other faces (the stretched texture). I suppose UVing is the most boring part of modelling ... I certainly hate it.

Thanks for the comments.

The thing with the UV mapping is that i'm not familiar with it yet. It took like an hour or two to make that texture look right on the sides, and i'm not aware how i'd texture the top and bottom too. Bleh, so i left it at that. :p

Gotta get working with some tutorials. *zap*

how did you manage to get it to 136 polys lol, you could make the exact same in 60 polys,

but since these are your 1st models its alright

prolly the same detail as the ones use on cstrike on the 3rd person models

There are some unused polys in the sides of the part you grab, i thought i'd lift them a bit but i forgot them there and now they are just a waste. but anywaysssss,
