Ok guys, I’m posting this not just because of me, maybe we can all learn with this... so if you don't know all the askers to my questions just tell me what you know and what is your opinion… well, here it is:

1) There are a lot of 3d programs or editors all over the internet, but I don’t know all of them, so with your experience I’d like to know:
- Which program is the best to make 3d rooms (buildings, indoors, houses, etc, etc)
- Which program is the best to make characters (monsters, characters, etc)
- Which program is the best to make simple objects (just objects, interactive objects, etc)
^these programs don’t need to be free (but if they are… cool) and all differents (if the program do all that… cool)

2) Some games are just too heavy for our computers… so I want to know which 3d files types are the best to load faster or just to run the game properly (example: 3ds, X, etc)

2) I want some terrains in my game… so… I’d like to know what is the best way to make them, should I use a 3d program or should I just do one in DB pro (with a matrix, for example), tell me your opinion…

thanks

Use Cartography Shop to make rooms. All you need to do is make a cube and then click on Flip to flip the polygons. To add doors, you can go into the Surface Selection mode and select the wall. Then you can resize it, copy and paste it, or just simply delete it. It's real easy to use.

For terrains, use Geoscape 3D. It has numerous layering, texturing, and heightmapping abilities, and it's also very easy to use. Both programs are available on this site.

You can use DeleD (freeware) for creating rooms and/or entire worlds. It is very easy to use and supports exporting to .x files. It is being transferred into a full 3D modeler right now too so it'll be capable to create monsters etc. The website is down atm, so mail me if you want a copy.

There is no best 3D format for speed since they all get converted to an internal format once read in.

Most people choose either .X or .3DS depending on their favorite modelling tools.

I like DoGA CGA and Metasequoia LE for buildings, simple objects, and complex mecha (and they both export to .X format.)

For Game Beavers, I like to use Milkshape 3D since it can export to .X and .DTS, the format used by the Torque engine. I'm not a character animation kind of guy, but MS3D offers an excellent mix of formats and tools for the price.

thanks, i tried wings 3d, but is just a renderer program (and that i already have one)
yeah milkshape seems to be a cool program (and suports bone animation)

i thought doing the terrain in bryce and them export as 3ds... but i think 3ds files are to heavy, there is any kind of converter (3ds to .X)

i also have been trying to do some simple objects with rhinoceros 3d.. the problem is the texturing...
hey one question, how about making simple objects with milkshape?

i didn't but i want to try deled, so i'll email jeroenNL

there is something that i don't understand...
can i make a 3d model for a game in programs such bryce
what i'm trying to say, is that, those models are for renderized images, and the models for games are not, so those models have thousands of polygons and the others not.

wow i'm really newbie at this

As to 3DS being 'heavy' a 10K polygon 3DS model will convert into a 10K polygon X model. Polygons define basic geometry. Usually, the modeller has direct control over the number of polygons he or she wants to use.
