A) It all depends on what you need
B) Not to my knowledge
C) To most of us, yes, considering some of the free tools out there.

You should really try the free ones, like Wings3D and Lithunwrap. Or, you could buy Milkshape for $20, or if you like a different mesh editor, but just want animation, you could go with CharacterFX for $15.

Cheers,
Preston

It's demo is free for download. Caliagri products are known for being value priced for the features you get. The only thing with GameSpace is you don't get a NURB's modeling feature as you do in Truespace 6.6 or even 4.3 which is only $79.

gameSpace does have a boxed version available from [hrefhttp://www.caligari.com/gamespace[/href]. All the <insertwordhere>Space products are great. I don't know what NURBS are though, could somebody elaborate?

NON-UNIFORM RATIONAL B-SPLINES. Don't worry about the meaning of NURBS, all you need to now is NURBS are a more natural way to model objects. Instead of dealing with individual vertices you model by pushing, pulling patches of geometry. Almost like modeling clay. Your character models should be no more than about 5000 (most likely 2000-3000) vertices, something you need to worry about when using NURBS as they create more vertices.

I used Caligary way back when I had an amiga in the late 80's. I remembered how much it sucked back then. It's probably come along way in 15 years. However, I think I'll stick with MilkShape3D.
