btw thx a lot guys on that other post... i decided NOT to give up on DB and I did the Binary moon limit rush tutorial, and now i got a pretty good understanding of darkbasic... so now i want to create my own. But i was wondering where to start. which type of game is easiest to create? (ie- first person shooter, 3rd person RPG, etc.) oh yeah and one other thing. is there any place on thiss site where i can download functions or something like that? Thanks in advance

well, i would say that you should start on pong and the like....these are really easy games, small and simple and would give you experience in 3d objects....

if you want am "easy"ier real game, such as a first person shooter, rts, and the like, i would say, start with a small fps and work your way up from there.....that is my suggestion...

cheers,
Bishop

I think FPS is something to start. Thats were I started and now
I know all these things to make them. Its best to just stick
to a style and work for that style. What I know about FPS
is that all you need is AI, a gun in the screen, collision, bulits and a way to play the animations of all the players. Also
a good plot.

Pong is the easiest game. Or a guessing game. See attached for some really stupid code I just threw up.

yah but in a FPS you learn new things. and later if you wont to make
like a RTS or RPG you can because you know things alot better.

whatever you make, keep it simple and take it in steps.

for example a FPS:

first make it load a level, and you can look around with the mouse.

then add the ability to walk around with the arrow keys.

then add collision

then add some enemies

etc....

just take your time, by working out the simple parts, you will come up with ways to work out the more difficult parts

The undoubtedly EASIEST game to make would probably be a text adventure. No physics, no real-time calculation, just if they type this then do that. If they have that in their inventory, do this.
The hardest part would be designing all the puzzles, and maybe making an easy to use command system; but there's really no need for a full blown commercial-quality parser that can understand complicated sentences. Just have several basic commands like:
OPEN
GO
LOOK
etc. Then after that do PONG, then something cool like an FPS or whatever you want.

Current Project: KillZone(FPS)
Soon to come:An rts, and a snowball fight game

Pong is way easier than a text adventure. All aracde games are pretty easy.

The FPS tutorial in the manual is a good test bed to start from as well.
