I'm paying for someone to shoot me in the face with radiation?

I mean they set up the 'gun', then leave the room and zap your face - what I'd like to know is why is it dangerous for them to stay in the room, and why is it not dangerous for me to get shot in the face?

There's nothing worse than supposed experts leaving the room, it's like their saying ''screw this! - your on your own mate!''

its all about dosage - one dose isn't too bad but if the dentists were in the room for everyone they xrayed then they would get pretty sick.

it ok for you to have 20 X-ray a year, if you did you get the same radiation as some one how live in Aderdeen or Salt Lake city. but a Dental may do this 20 a day so over a year he get over 200 time the radiation as any one else if he stays in the room. this will may make you sick but it will give you a 20000% grater changes of geting caners.

they walk out the room? Well im not sure how they do it where you live but here they just put this card in your mouth and put this thing up to the side of your face and press a button. They dont walk out the room

Yep, same procedure - except the dentist and assistant both leave the room before pressing the button. They just leave you sorta sitting there like and idiot. I don't recall the dentist leaving the room before, maybe new UK legislation.

It's cool - I could sit and watch my dentists assistant leave the room and come back in all day long . I swear that if dental assistants and receptionists were'nt traditionally babes, there'd be a lot more men brushing there teeth properly.

I don't think that's the kind of x-ray Van-B mentioned.

As for the "real thing", I was in such 'operation' just yesterday!
Leave in me in a small room biting some plastic thingy while holding still and watching that ufo device rotate around my head.

But the truth is, you're prolly gonna get more radiation just by travelling in an aeroplane! or by hanging out on summer. Sun and space are good sources for radiation.

and the reason the nurses, doctors and x-ray specialist leave the room is simply the dosage, nothing else. I believe there's a limit on how many x-ray checks can be done in a year. there are pretty strict rules when it comes to things like this. Those people that have to work daily in places that have radiation are constantly being watched and tested so that they can't get too big radiation dosages.

Do without X-Rays whenever possible, they are not[i/] neccessary for regular checkups or appointments... enough of them over time [i]will do substantial damage to your body.

I'm aware. There is only one 'kind of' X-Ray and they are all equally damaging to your body. Dental x-rays are fairly strong.

One kind of X-rays ? Not really.
In fact, the X-rays are simply waves, like light, but their wave-length is different. To be an X the wave length has to be between 10^-11 m and 10^-8 m. So all these waves are X-rays.
Visible light has wavelengths from 400 nm to 700 nm. (nanometer)

When I broke the growthplate in my hip (this acts as the glue to your hip, thus making my right leg litterly begin to FALL OFF) I had to have x-rays. Im just glad they gave me the nut cover because....well lets just say radiation down there isnt very good!
