I was wondering. Is that any good. I found the full professional version 9 for only $40.00 (US) and I really liked it. It is open source, which is cool, I like that it has compatibility with Windows software and games. It looked like a good deal since I am sick of Windows. Is that a good price. And can you guys give me some more info on it.

Also, can it run in Windows but I can still use Windows as my main 0S?

umm. I think so. I open the code then compile it and it is faster?

I wanna go with something well known & that is why I chose RH or maybe SuSe.

@LinuxUser
It's not my goal to be nasty, but why use Linux? I understand that many people hate M$oft, but what's the big Linux whoop?
I can honestly say that the whole Linux hype makes me curious, but from what I've read, it seems like a DOS( let's path our way to the file ) setback.
Windows for me, has made - getting the job done simple - but, maybe I'm not well informed.
Please tell me why Linux is talked about like GOD...?

Linux is an alternative operating system sure, but it allows you to customize every aspect if your into that sort of thing.
Linux also allows you to set up a server and host files for many varied tasks, it can also be used to compile C and C++ programs without large costs if your a legit application user that is.
Not to mention other languages, web applications, mainly where multiple users are involved. Wine is the core that allows you to emulate windows even tho they claim its not emulating it but getting a hold of the windows libs and running them. You will still neeed windows to run it in linux.
Unix systems have been around for ages and they serve purposes from running telephone systems to simple company servers etc. but there is a lot more with linux that can achieve.

I think a lot of it stems from "under the hood curiosity".

Linux can be like DOS if you open up a terminal window, but there are excellent GUI's out there like Gnome and KDE that are just as good as, if not better, than Windows.

@ o_0 : that's getting annoying.

@ Transworld: If you'e completely new to Linux, then i'd suggest you try out Knoppix, just change your BIOS to boot from CD and then you can run Linux from a CD-ROM. Nothing on your computer is changed except you obviously can't use the CD-ROM while it's running. It's a good way to get your feet on firm ground when switching from Windows to Linux, which i'll have to do soon because they say that my course in Uni is all done in a Linux environment. Anyway, i have a free copy of Knoppix sitting around somewhere. You can probably get a demo of something if you look around...hope i helped...

I decided to got with SuSE Linux. I like it more than Red Hat and Gentoo. I will download it sometime today or tomorrow and.

I hate Micro$oft and Windows. It gets on my nerves for some reason. Linuz is so much cooler. I might even buy Wine so I can run some Windows apps while in Linux.
