Hey, everyone knows that grease is a complete bugger to get off your screen. Especially on laptops, where if you have one with a fluid screen you're not really allowed to use most of the best grease removers out there. Well i found a simple alternative-it was on the telly-where you mix 1 part fabric detergent to 8 parts water, and put it in a spray bottle. It actually works, and it's safe for laptop screens! It's the only thing i've tried for cleaning that actually works on mine. Just thought i'd share the grease-free smiles.

Nice tip!

I have a TFT monitor and a laptop - so as you can imagine both screens are usually pretty manky! and those alcohol cleaning wipes that work pretty decent are so ferkin expensive.

actually, if you use tissue paper and spend ages wiping the screen you can usually get rid of that grease..it works for me anyway. I hate it when theres a mess on the screen.

Grease? Yew... I've worked in some damn disgusting places on computers (half a packet of ciggies and pies stuck in the keyboard is pretty bad), but having a major problem with grease on the monitor is not one of them. Dust 'n stuff maybe, but grease? What are you guys doing?

I use eye glass cleaner, not sure what it is but it is safe for plastic coatings and is streak free.

I can`t stand marks/dust on the screen, the only time I get problems is when the brothers kids are round, they don`t just point to something on the screen, they have to bloody poke it with their sweaty little fingers and maul it all up <GRRR!> , every time I say "don`t touch the screen" and every time they leave I have to break out the screen cleaner and start polishing, KIDS? BAH! HUMBUG!.

Just to make cleaning easier, I made a little app that toggles the screen white/black when you hit space, perfect for checking the screen is totaly clean .

Mentor.

Mentor: One of the reasons I chose NOT to get a wireless mouse/keyboard. I could picture myself going to the bathroom and coming back to find my mouse being used as a baseball, and the keyboard first base

Well ever had ANYONE else looking at your computer? They WILL, without pause, point at things on your screen. Even if it's blank. And over time, this leaves dirt great big smears. Because Human hands are dirty, and have natural grease on them. As my latop moves around, it gives people more oppertunities to stab their fingers in the screen, get a good shouting at, and if they repeat the offence, a ding on the ear. Over time, it just builds up...

Why not? There's no real reason not to, i used to say no to everyone till i realised that the worst thing that could happen is they could get fingerprints on the screen. They're all just adept enough to not kill my PC while not good enough to ruin it, or fiddle with the settings.

That's because they were meant to wipe off something else...

Anyway, are you sure that spraying liquid on a laptop is okay? Won't the liquid slip into the keyboard, or do I have to flip the laptop upside down so the water flows away? It's my mom's, so I don't wanna frick it or anything.

I get ordinary window spray, spray it onto a cloth, and then wipe the monitor screen with the cloth (You shouldn't spray it directly onto the screen) Works pretty well

For laptops your probably best spraying a clean cloth with DivW's special mix then wiping the screen - Laptops tend to have little protection for all the motherboard gubbings sitting under the keys.

Thank god they did'nt have TFT screens in the 50's, I could imagine those getting slashed instead of cinema seats - all that weird jelly inside too, wonder what it tastes like.

Yeah you should spray it onto a cloth first, not directly onto the laptop screen.

I hope that got out out in time...please don't go spraying your laptops with anything that's 7/8'ths water...

@ VanB: Hee Hee DivW's Special Mix...i should write that on the bottle...with a label that says "Ingredients: Chemical X"
(Me and my Mate Euan used to have a laugh in chemistry when we were told to 'Identify chemical X', it led to a series of 'Noooo not chemical X' sketches...)
