I've been having pure bad luck ever since I started looking for an animator. First I tried Anim8tor, that was pretty good and I make a really good running animation, but the files don't load into dbpro. Then I tried JT Edit, but I really can't use it cos it keeps crashing, I appreciate its only in the early stages though and its gonna make one hell of a program when its finished. 3D canvas was next on my list, I download the demo and it works fine once. Then I open it up again and try to load the same .x model again and it crashes. I've tried again several times with no success. Lastly I tried the milkshape demo, I manage to get a model loaded, but whenever i look at the help to learn how to use it, it just freezes and quits.

As you can see I'm really not having any luck. Are there any other free/relativly cheap programs I could use for skeletal animation out there that work well without crashing? Thanks.

Do you bite your thumb at me sir?

You can download the CHM file for Milkshape's help file from their web site and that should fix the help look up bug. I'd give MS3D a second chance since it has a lot of bang for the buck.

Thanks, trying that now. I've got the skeleton working with the model, just I'm having troubles with animating (key frames).

i think milkshape is your best bet out of those. you seem to have programs crash alot- any possibility your system itself is unstable?

Get CharacterFX ..you can try it for 30 days for free than you must register for fairly low price.

Its better than Milkshape and export to x without problems.
I higly recomend it...

Thanks everyone, lithunwrap has started complaining that I need some directX 8.0 feature to save to .x, so maybe I should try downloading directx again. I will try CharacterFX arras, thanks a lot.

Hey, I'm finding this CharacterFX really good. It was pretty easy to bone the body and I've got a really good running animation coming along. Thanks Arras, I will consider regestering .

Triple post, sorry....

My first step towards becoming an accomplished animator dude . A running loop with super-box-man . Now I'm gonna try and make animations for linking static with running.
