I got 200 dollars and I want to buy a 3D modeling programs and a DLL
but never mind the DLL.
I have 3 diffrent packages and I don't know what to choose
so I need your advice

1. The programes are
Milkshape = $25
NG (some DLL) = $15
Texture Maker + Cartography Shop + Geoscape3D = $167
total = $207 I can handle that
I get: Modeling, indoor, outdoor, texture

2. The Programs are
Milkshape = $25
NG (some DLL) = $15
Texture Maker + Cartography Shop = $120
total = $160 ($40 wxtra to buy some other program)
I get: Modeling, indoor, texture and one more thing

3. The Programs are
Milkshape = $25
NG (some DLL) = $15
Cartography Shop = $64
Paint shop pro = $87
total = $191
I get: Modeling, indoor, texture, web design (need it).

I have no idea which one to choose. One of my problems is
Geoscape3D and I dont know if its that good, I read that you
need to ask for a key code everytime that you are changing your
hardware or doing format and that can be a really frustrated thing.
other then that I dont know which one is better Paint shop pro
or Texture maker. I need some advices and a reason can be also a good thing

$20 milkshape: cool modeller with good community and import/export
$20 characterfx: good aniamtion package with good ms3d compatability
$40 unwrap3d: great unwrapping tool with a plethora of game model plugins

are all good programs to invest money into if you need a 3d set.

all you need next is a 2d bitmap editing program and theres a few freeware ones around that will cover that area.

pixia
gimp
photoplus
paint shop pro5

If you guys can handle it, right now Caligari is doing a deal with gameSpace. You get v1.5, the indoor level creator called Level Exporter, and gameSpace also comes with Milkshape. gameSpace also has texture editing features, including making your own bump maps. Normally this would cost $375, but you get it for $269. Their customer support is also great.

For 2d the commercial quality program I recommend is Paint Shop Pro 8. If you want something for free there's Pixia and Gimp of course, but there is another one called Wally. As long as it has basic paint features it should suffice.

Personally, I use this freeware/shareware combo:

Wings3D For 3D Modelling
Lithunwrap For Fixing the UV Maps Wings3D Exports
Gimp For Texturing and 2D Design
CharacterFX For Rigging and Animating

But, may I suggest a relatively cheap package under $200:

Nendo 3D Modeller and 3D Painter, Can Export to .3ds and .X Along With the Painted Textures- $100
Cartography Shop For World Building - $65
CharacterFX For Animation - $15

Only $180 and you get a 3D Modeller, Painter, Animator, and World Builder. Dont worry about outdoor scenes, you can just make those in Nendo

Though, You could switch out Nendo for Wings3D, they're practically the same except for the 3D Painter and then buy Tattoo (but you gotta UV Map in Wings3D first, and maybe edit them a bit in Unwrap3D):

Tattoo 3D Painting Tool - $41.60
Unwrap3D UV Mapping Tool - $40

You'd save $18.40 if you used Wings3D, Tattoo, and Unwrap3D instead of Nendo. But really, choose what you want, and download the demos first

[Edit] You can also save another $65 if you did your indoor scenes in Wings3D and Nendo as well...so really you dont need to buy Cartography Shop.

Cheers,
Preston

I'm a cheapo.

Milkshape 3D ($25)
PSP 5
DoGA CGA L3 (free, $40 if you need AVI capability)
Metasequoia LE
NG Collision ($15)

I don't do much character animation, so that might change in the future.

The only program I need now is a indoorsoutdoors world builder
there is Quill3D and Geils. This the one that I know of any other
software I should check? (it is better if the software will cost
$60 max).

Milkshape is one of the best modeling programs out there
but I dont understand something some people told me that we should
buy with milkshape CharacterFX and Ultimate Unwrap3D I can buy them
but the question is why? what will they do that Milkshape won't\can't?
and does Milkshape have lightmaps?

So for now it seems Ill buy
Milkshape = $25
NG (DLL) = $15
PSP = $79
(optional)CharacterFX = $15
(optional)Ultimate Unwrap3D = $39
total = $119 - $173

well there are only 2 downsides to milkshape, it doest render or make lightmaps, owever milkshape 2 will do, or on the forums they say so,

milkshape can do animations but its not specifically designed for animations so its no way neer as low level as character fx is, ultimate unwrap makes uv mapping alot easier same reasons for the animations, if you dont wanna fork out $40 on it then get lithunwrap as its free, but not all the features are in there but many people use it and produce high quality models

i recomend you buy

milkshape
paint shop pro 8
ng collision
cshop

personally before you buy CShop you really should look at Gile[s]. it's a lightmapper, but the results seem much better than cshop to me.

otherwise, nice set of programs there.

be able to build worlds in Milkshape (Milkshape itself can build but
I don't know if I could).
