You need to extensivly learn to code in 3d or 2d depending on what you want. 2d is more fun though IMO.

But to make a game like it would be hard for one person to do =) so have fun.

answerme4, I'll toss you a bone. You should check out the sticky posts at the top of this thread, if you have not done so.

In essence, "Da Codez" can be in excess of 10,000 lines of source code. Programming requires a little more investment in time and effort than "Hey I need a code for runescape". Game development requires even more energy since you need to master or at least understand 2D/3D graphics, sound effects, music, animation, game design, networking, etc.

WOW this thread has seemed to accomplish nothing more than for me to see that there is a decent handful of programmers who play runescape as well... but what I suggest if you want to make a runescape style game is that you get your darkbasic web skills up to par. Im also certain that you cant make runescape with darkbasic skills alone, you will probably need some JAVA skills for enhanced online stuff and probably C++ since this game will need a truckload of 3rd party things not available in DarkBASIC.

But answerme, dont come here just expecting for someone to give u a code like that, if any of us had it everyone here would know. Just give it a fair shot, no one told Andrew Gower that it would be easy, and just look at him now...

I believe that Runescape is made in Java, but it has to be made in something else as well since Java cant hold and store data such as passwords and items... at least thats what a friend told me. He may have been referring to JavaScript, but u can decide.

But if it is made in two different codes, then it may be pretty hard. Took Jagex years to get where they are.

yes java can hold and store passwords and items, etc. There is a great game called valheru made in java that has hundreds of items and a password for each player.
