There's no native support for such a thing BUT you could produce your own DLL that would connect to a MySQL DB and pass SQL queries to it, returning the results in whatever format you like.

Ending a sentence with a French word is so passé

Thanks alot!

So, if I purchase DBP, and use that plugin, will it be able to take information from the SQL database, and use it in the game? EG, look up the character stats in the databse, and then the game uses them to determine outcomes of events?

If this is possible, Im definitely getting DBP!
Already have a good dev team going, with experienced coders, artists and modellers, so we have realitic expectations of a large mmorpg
Ill stay around this forum if I get DBP

Yup, it should be possible. I'd advise you not to jump straight into the deep end and start with a mmorpg though, as you'd first want to get a feel of the language.

YEah. Well, is Darkbasic similar to normal basic (im fluent in it on commodore 64 )
I can also use C++ and things like c-script in 3d game studio, so i dont think getting into Darkbasic should be too difficult

Nah, if you're familiar with other languages that are similar or more complex all you need to do is read up on the syntax to establish your "toolbox".

If I was you I wouldn't use DBP for the server.

You'd be much better off writing your server in C++ for one the resources to connect to a MySql DB already exist for C++, and secondly you would end up writing a Sockets DLL anyways Directplay wasn't designed with MMORPGs in mind. Plus DBPros implementation of Directplay is kinda crappy.

There is a lot more cons to writing your server in DBpro than there is pluses. if you want me to list them all I will but they've all been pointed out in other threads.

Heck, if you are dead set on writing your server ina scripting language use Python it has much better resources for server development than DBpro does.

Hmm. So what do you people think is the best way to make a MMORPG?
SHould I use Darkbasic Pro, and the SQL dll, and then connect to a SQL databse, and use that information in the game? And use darkbasics multiplayer options to put players on the screen at the one time?

Or is there a totally different way to do it?
