What format is best to use for my 3D Max models (animated, for now untextured) when using them in DB Pro? 3DS or .X? And what programs/plugins (free :/) should I use? These things start to confuse me.. it's so much easier with programming

I would definitely go with .x, it's the native format DB supports and loads a lot quicker than .3ds files. Of course, if you get better results with .3ds then use those. With 3D Studio Max you basically have what you need for modelling. The only thing I would recommend is using Total Terrain(http://www.robinking.com/allseeingi), and then finding a heightmap reader for 3D Max.

I meant what tool to use to export my models to .x?
I've been trying for quite some time now to put my models in DBP, but not much luck yet. Only basic models, not animated, no textures :/

what modeller are you usinng?

any for the record, .x is not the "native" format for dbpro. there is a format called "Dark Basic Object" (.dbo), which is the native format for DBPro. objects in this format load MUCH MUCH faster than .3ds and even .x files.

currently there is a convertor made by RobK available to convert .3ds and .x models to .dbo format, look for it in the forums. with the release of update 6, the .dbo format should become more official, and hopefully more programs will start offering .dbo export ability. currently the only program I know that can directly export .dbo is Gile[s], a lightmapper I highly recommend.

good luck!

This .dbo format sounds...interesting. Tried searching for the convertor you mentioned, but no luck. Anybody got a link? The forum's search is awful :/
