how do you get part of your texture on a plain to be transparent and the rest opaque?

is there a certain color or snippet i need to use?

You need to elaborate, methinks. But if you mean what I think you mean, this can't be *easily* done...

perhaps a snippet like this explains it.

DBP uses the set object commands a little differently than classic

if your on classic then change these two commands
set object transparency 1,1 : set object cull 1,0
to the set object command.
