Actually have a 3d model file thats .3ds using the .jpeg texture map in dark basic pro?

Why? Actually because I have a 3d model that has a texture map of 1024 by 1024 and it takes up 3MB for the .BMP file. The jpeg version only takes up around 85k.

was there a question?

but I would strongly recommend on using JPEG or PNG for FINAL textures, since its very much faster to load jpeg then a BMP. I noticed a 75% speed game on texture load.

Well I'm testing the 3ds obj with the JPG map with it.

Annnnnnnnnnnd.. it works! I'm still using the trial of dark basic pro but its worth upgrading to.

Does that really speed things up? Because your 3d card converts them all to the same format internally and a jpeg is more work to read than a bitmap.

RAM is faster than a hard drive so JPG and PNG files do have an advantage. But, some 3D modelling tools prefer BMP files. DBP is more forgiving and flexible.

@ Froggermon: the loading might take a little longer but after that, JPG takes less memory and is thus faster for your graphics card to read. And also, consider a JPG file of 94kb and a BMP of 3mb, both containing the same image. Even if a JPG has more complex loading algorithms, it would still load faster than loading 3mb from disk.

Im pretty sure that you card converts it to a lossless format internally very early on. If thats the case there is no benafit.
