I`ve seen a Tool to change the Multiplyer on the fly...
But it only works if you have a athlon m!!!
So either you buy one, or you have to conect some bridges on the cpu, so that you have a athlon m

I think its much easier to overclock it through the BIOS...

Oh, i forgot: Theres another way: you also can connect some pins at the cpu, and change the multiplier... i tried this method, but because of my crappy 2000+ it worked not very well...

Kojo

P.s: If your cpu is overclocked: load a programm called "prime 95", if your computer can handle this programm without crashing oder overheating, your Settings are right...

In the beginning, the universe was created...
This made alot of people very angry and it has been widely regarded as a bad idea...

Oh, theres another way

Look here: http://www.ocinside.de/go_e.html?/html/workshop/pinmod/amd_pinmod.html

It´s the best Way, if your BOIS dont support overclocking...

I already tried this method, and it worked very well...

Just use this Method:

4.) The plugging method into the CPU socket
You select "Socket view" in the interactive Pin-Mod guide, then choose the CPU and the desired multiplier or Vcore
(and maybe also the FSB to calculate the approximate frequency you'll get).
Now you can already see the socket with the respective connections for this multi.
To connect these, you take some little pieces of wire e.g. from a HDD or floppy-cable and shorten them
to 8 - 10mm pieces.
Then you put them into the shown positions and put the CPU into the Socket.
Et viola, now the CPU works with the desired multiplier.

But be careful, theres a paste on the processor, which must!!! be removed.

Good luck

currently i'm working on a PC with that "Mobile Mod".

before:

runs at 36°

after:

runs at 53° when running prime95s torture test (little hot i thought and ordered another radiator for my water cooling)

i can change the multiplier to what ever i want to, aslong as it is between 5.5x and 16x. but only because of my Mainboard. others can do all multipliers from 3x to 24x

if you're firm in german, here is a small guide how i did it.
http://www.ocinside.de/go_d.html?http://www.forum-inside.de/cgi-bin/forum/forums.cgi?forum=1&archive=list
otherwise try translating it with google. if it is still ununderstandable (and you really want that Mod), i can try myself writing that guide in english.

another thing that comes to my mind is, that there are different cores of Athlon XPs. Perhaps you already know that, but in case you don't:

1. first Athlon XPs were Palominos
- close L1 Bridges to modify Multiplier in BIOS
- overclock horribly bad

2. then came Thoroughbred-A
- wire mod works here
- still overclock bad

3. Thouroughbred-B
3 different versions:
a) - wire mod working
- overclock differently, one has to have luck with the stepping
b) - completely unlocked!
- overclock generally good
c) - "Superlocked" -> wire mod didn't work anymore just as closing L1 Bridges or editing L3 Bridges
- mobile Mod does the trick (especially on SIS chipsets, for you have one)
- overclock without problems (it seems that they are downclocked by AMD)

4. same goes for Bartons

5. surely last Athlon XP is Thorton
- Superlocked, mobile mod again
- overclock extremely good (perhaps downclocked)
